there is/was a Flesh Hulk hero that could spawn in Burrwtich Estates, i don’t know what happened to it, “if intended”, or removed since charger change or just omega RNG spawn, but back when i encountered it at the door to Krieg’s house it was actually kinda scary, and very “thematic” door man fitting ![]()
Just double checking, was this is a one-off encounter? I’m just wondering if you’re referring to some Totem hero.
no happened atleast half to whole dozen times, but far from every run back then
Interesting. I don’t believe I’ve ever encountered a hulk in Act 1. But, I also had stopped playing the game for a long time until recently.
I can confirm that a single Aetherial Hulk hero can spawn from time to time in Act 1.
Do you or @Gnomish_Inquisition remember the rough location? Is it just the Burrwitch Estates or is it also in the Warden’s Cellar, East Marsh etc.?
Estates, at Kriegs house, either at the door, inside it or in the yard with the aether crystals
edit, genuinely wish it was like a fixed spawn(think i mentioned it in another/old thread too
) even if not a boss like venarius, it was very cool back when it happened because both big scary enemy (actually kinda hurt at the time/surprise on vet too), but also the whole doorman vibe from big muscle boi ![]()
Another way to increase their presence in the game is to create additional pockets of them scattered in unlikely places in the map, like Rutnik’s gang. Split off from the main force, either by circumstances or by choice. With a lore note or 2, they can be justified basically anywhere.
I can imagine a small ragtag camp of them early in the Asterkarn range (Before the Kurn Bonfire), just “trying their luck” to go dominate “those savages” up north, and realizing they are ill-equipped. That would drive home the point even more that this place is inhospitable. It would also break the homogeneity of the encounters in that area.
Agreed. This simple swap can fix the Act 2 boss problem.
At the moment, Cronley is about as memorable as Voldrak. Maybe even less so because Voldrak’s size when compared to the trolls takes you by surprise.
While I agree in principle, I would prefer not to run into Cronley’s thugs beyond Act 3. I can get behind Cronley’s gang making to Homestead past the Immolation because they ultimately serve the Aetherials. But, I can’t imagine them being able to get through the Bloodsworn at Darkvale. Even the entire gang wouldn’t be enough to take on Zaria + Karroz, let alone the Unraveler.
Cronley could use a camp or two around Broken Hills. I think it’s close enough to Four Hills that it’d make sense.
Imo, they get bodied by the wildlife/Black Legion.
Plus, I think having camps of Order/Kymon’s Chosen in the early stages of Asterkarn would be better than Cronley camps. Both those factions already have a strong presence in the Asterkarn Valley thanks to them dominating one half of Fort Ikon. Adding camps of these factions to the Frostveil Highlands would also help add enemy diversity to the region.
Heck, with how much better the Wights are at combat, I’m surprised we don’t have a band of Necromancers trying to get a few them under control.
Voldrak has killed a good few of my characters when I was new to the game. Melee types who thought they were tough, mostly, or the occasional caster caught by his linear blast attack and got stunned before I learned his attack patterns.
He is quite a significant difficulty spike, and that alone makes him far more memorable than Cronley, who has never seriously threatened any of mine.
I never considered him as a difficulty spike but I see what you mean.
The fact that I remember the name of a traffic cone as much as I remember a quest boss & faction leader like Cronley is a sign of the latter being a bad boss.
I have nothing against Voldrak, him being a troll that towers over others of its kind in Act 2 is a great way to introduce him. But, he isn’t anything more than a roadblock. Cronley has a main quest and an entire faction dedicated to him. Yet I enjoy fighting Rutnick, Fabius, and Vinn more than I enjoy fighting him.
I hope Crate considers revisiting Cronley once they get a chance after the Asterkarn content updates.
speaking of random flesh hulk hero spawn
got a bodyguard spawned for Lucius (where loot dropped)
- these bouncer bois are so neat when they happen in less expected places
Would be really cool to get a Rogue like dungeon for Cronley gang with a transformed and re-buffed Cronley at the end - like going full circle with the game.
I know we have 2 more dungeons planned - we know the next one is Bloodborne based with the last one being a mystery.
One can dream to get additional faction or re-design down the line would gladly pay for more Roguelike dungeons as small dlc.
Yeah, a Cronley dungeon has been wanted for a long time. Here’s hoping. ![]()
I understand the sentiment, but considering the build up of FoA, I would hope the last dungeon introduced is dedicated to the Bloodbound rather than a faction that is entirely irrelevant to the entire DLC.
I fully agree that the Cronley faction could be ramped up a bit. I also wouldn’t mind seeing the Cronley fight itself ramped up a bit… on Elite and above. For a new player, SSF, the base Cronley fight with his bubble and abundant Aether Damage already is a bit of a hurdle.
That said, I do think one of the issues is that people have gotten used to beelining through the questlines. Cronley’s Gang have a pretty significant presence in the Arkovian Foothills. If there’s any space at all to introduce additional Cronley bosses or the likes, it’d be there.
Oh don’t let us worry you. I think it being a Cronley dungeon is unlikely. It’s looking like it’ll be the Dranghoul Fortress and something for the Bloodbound.
As much as we want it, rn there isn’t really any lore to explain why Cronley’s gang would have a whole challenge dungeon.
I mean, you’re not alone in thinking it - after all, the Season Mod made an entire 2 piece dungeon and the first half of their additional act dedicated to Cronley.
It’d just be preferable to steer feedback in a direction that is more likely to be actionable, I guess.
Yeah, Darius never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
I was under the impression that the Dranghoul Fortress is the Bloodbound dungeon. I expected it to be Chaos + Beast themed with Kruu’Sul likely being the final boss. Either him or the Bloodbound Shaman who turned Kruu’Sul to Chaos being the final boss.
Do we really have any hints as to what the final dungeon is going to be? I was expecting something Yugol themed since Noktukarri is aware of the Eternal Night and the Yulgir’s Overlook has a lore note hinting at the darkness trying to invade Cairn.
Rutnick did say that the Cronley Gang is nothing but a glorified crew.
I personally agree. I don’t feel strongly towards a Cronley Dungeon, at least not as strongly as I feel towards making Darius a better Act boss. He’s a big part of why Act 2 sucks (compared to Acts 1 and 3.
I should get around to playing that after trying the TQ total conversion mod. This is the second thread, I’ve seen it get brought up. Haven’t tried a mod besides RoT and Nydiamar.
It’s honestly well done. So much so, in fact, it inspired several of FoA’s features. Naturally, it being a mod there’s always things about it that aren’t 100% “Crate”, if you wish. It adds a lot of flavour with different MIs and some of the endgame mechanics are interesting.
