Dark one set suggestion

Hi all! Here a suggestion for more Death Knight support!

A litle suggestion to the Dark one set is to support the soldier mastery!
I made a dualwield Death Knight based on vitality damage.
Damage wise It use Cadence, Ravenous Earth and Syphon Souls!
All in all, the set could potentially give + skills to cadence and/or add a skill modifier to it.

Here’s the build : http://www.grimtools.com/calc/lV79Y7aN

The damage is good except in some situations, I beleive it’s a matter of resist reduction since the soldier don’t give any (which could potentially be a good modifier to cadence ( more or less -15% vitality resistance)). Currently I use as much resist reduction I could find.

Anyone else like the idea?
I mean I even use 2x Mythical Edge of Death (Death Knight Swords) but there is no set to support that. The Dark one set seems like a perfect match! Also the resist reduction modifier to cadence is just an idea/exemple, but it could be anything else like a flat amount of vitality damage to cadence and +skills to cadence for exemple.

Also, even though it seems like a cadence build, the fact that you’re using Syphon Souls and Ravenous Earth makes it fun gameplay wise!

Dark One’s Set is fine as it is really, currently using it on a poison/vit cabalist. Besides that I think we can all agree that Soldier doesn’t need any more love.

The death Knight already has a legendary set(Kriegs) and soldier mastery has the most legendary sets of all, so no. Before giving even more support to the soldier look at other masteries first. Non soldier based melee build are already inferior as it is, no need to make it even worse.

Why would a set made for casters give skill points to a skill mainly used by melee and by ranged sometimes? Cadence already has enough stuff, doesn’t need more.

I don’t play caster so my suggestion are made with melee builds in mind.
A thread about Death Knight being ‘‘meh’’ have been made close to the release of the game… so this suggestion i’m making is in that regards too. I know there is the Krieg set but my suggestion promote another build/playstyle.
Also as everything in Grim Dawn, bonuses on gear are made to promote mastery choices… I though people knew about it by now.
On top of that, the edge of mastery swords suggest a vitality damage Death Knight… the Dark one set would promote that kind of build perfectly.

My suggestion is adding a few stats to a set, not creating a set.

Saying a mastery has enough love, isn’t an argument.
If you get an idea to promote a set/items for another playstyle then do it!
The only mage I played so far is a melee mage using the Callidor’s Tempest skill.

Except this set literally has nothing to do with Cadence or any other melee skill. Skills need to make sense with the set first before anything else and Cadence makes no sense in the Dark One set, specially from a lore perspective.

And yes, saying mastery skills have enough love is a pretty rock solid argument. How about giving more attention to some overlooked skills before giving more stuff to Cadence, the skill that probably has the most support in the game?

It’s because you don’t think out of the box Norzan. The set combined with the Edge of Death work perfectly together. I dunno what you mean by lore, it means nothing when building builds in Grim Dawn. It’s a mindset that just limit yoursefl for creating builds. The Dark one set inscrease vitality damage and the proc has damage absorption, which seems perfect for melee builds too.

Also, the skills used in my build work good togheter. Do you find it odd to use War cry in a melee build, probably not right? Guess what, I use Ravenous Earth over War cry because Ravenous Earth also reduce ennemies damage and it also scale with vitality damage. Turns out Ravenous Earth is being scaled with Dark one set.

I still don’t think it’s an argument to say an mastery as enough love because the time needed to add stats to it is close to nothing.

If it’s not by the Dark one set, other items used in the builds could receive some +skills to something like cadence. I promote doing it to the Dark one set just to help players to know a good build can be use while using that skill/mastery. Again. I won’t promote builds that aren’t melee because I don’t play mage builds in general, at least for now.

Because sets with skills that have nothing to do with the theme of the set just breaks immersion. Every skill in every set makes sense within the lore and theme of the set (some more than others, Myrmidion set with Necro skills is kind of iffy). It’s also a caster set, which means low armor for Cadence, a skill that requires to hit things at melee range.

Never found War Cry to be odd in melee builds because it makes sense in context.

The Dark One set is the set of Chthon, the god of the Void. Why would it give pluses to Cadence, a skill that has nothing to do with vitality, acid or chaos? It’s like adding Dreeg Evil Eye to Warborn set.

And yes, it’s still a sold argument. Why add Cadence to sets and items that have nothing to do with it, when you can add it to sets and items that actually makes sense for it to be in it?

I understand your point about lore, the lore of the set. I can’t tell if Ch’thon would give any interest about cadence
That said, my thread is to give any support from items (possibly) for such a build because it feels good overall gameplay wise and is different than just being a cadence build (left click) by using Ravenous Earth and Syphon Souls too.

By the way with my set up I have 2.3k Armor, but i have %armor value from Angrim crafting.

Alright alright, let me just phrase it like this. No offense, it’s obvious that you want to further your own agenda and make your one very specific build better but let’s face it, it still wouldn’t make any sense too add Soldier skills to a set like this.

-It’s a caster set. That means low armor values. That means no flat damage on any of the pieces. That means no attack speed. Adding melee skills to this already doesn’t make sense, let alone Soldier melee skills. As stated before it’d be like adding DEE to the Warborn set and making it physical.

-As stated before it does not at all fit the theme of the set. Not just from a lore perspective but also you’re suggesting it’s for a pure vitality build. That’d already just completely neglect 1 of the 2 damage types that the set uses unless you’re suggesting it also adds acid to Cadence. The set also lends itself more towards a DoT kind of playstyle anyways, not a melee playstyle.

-If you wanted it to work with more classes you could’ve suggested Shaman really. Devouring Swarm would kind of fit seeing as it’s one of those ‘horrific, frowned upon’ kind of abilities and it already supports to vitality playstyle. The set could add poison damage to it to fit the overall theme.
Another option would be Blackwater Cocktail as it benefits from the innate Chaos to Vit conversion on the set. All you’d have to do is toss on something like convert Fire to Acid on Blackwater Cocktail and it’d be a perfect match as it supports the DoT playstyle of the Dark One.

I’m not against adding more support for different skills to ‘2 class sets’ but this one just didn’t make sense no matter how you look at it. That being said it’s not like the set is unusable in your kind of build just because it doesn’t have +skills to Cadence. I’d be interested to see in how the build works out once it’s finished.

You should have a look at the dread knight shoulders and legs, they got recently changed to support vitality death knights. The dark one set would have to be heavily changed to fit a melee build, it would no longer work for caster builds then. I’d rather keep it as it is.
Also it’s a set from a secret area and should not be made a big focus for too many builds, it’s okay how it is.

My feedback was just to promote another build, that’s all. We have a different way of thinking and making builds. Being tanky with a build doesn’t rely only on the initial value, there’s more to it.
I already linked my set-up and killed the end-boss with it.
My armor value is currently 2.3k, 17.2k HP and my attack speed 165% (add another 10% when hungering void is up). Possibly more attack speed if you go with a Mi belt from one of the boss in Port Valbury. As you can see it’s not as bad as you think it is.

The Dread Knight gear are interesting. The reason why I like the Dark one set is because it boost a skill that does AOE damage which vitality damage and procs of that damage type don’t exist from the devotion. Cadence on it’s own isn’t a AOE clear skill. So combining Cadence + Ravenous Earth + Syphon Souls just make the whole build fun to play.

I feel like you’re completely missing the point of what I said. I never implied that it couldn’t already work out on a melee build, I can imagine that it works out well enough. I’m saying that it doesn’t make sense to make it support a melee soldier build because that’s just not what it’s meant for, the nature of the set is to support a DoT kind of playstyle as a caster. Just because you make due with turning it into a soldier build does not mean it should start supporting soldier builds.
