Thank you Crate for implementing this feature. If understand right, it takes some pressure off of the CPU and makes the GPU work harder.
This is perfect for someone like me with an old i3 processor bottleneck but a more-than-decent GTX 960 to pick up the slack. My monitor is 144hz and I play in 2k resolution with most graphics settings maxed.
Results: I notice a dramatic increase in framerate with deferred rendering. Devil’s Crossing was formerly one of the worst spots, usually giving me 30fps. It’s now about 48fps, which is totally fine for just walking around town.
Fights in the wilderness are even better. Formerly around 45fps, they’re now over 60fps in calmer spots, rarely ever dipping down below the 50’s unless there’s lots of enemies and effects onscreen.
So, overall, a much smoother experience. I didn’t realize how smooth it could be. I miss the sharpness that the old anti-aliasing method provided but I’m willing to trade for the frame rate boost.
Thanks again!
P.S. The game always freezes if I try to toggle Deferred Rending on/off while a game is loaded. I have to kill it Task Manager. Maybe the game should not attempt to apply the change when a game is loaded?
