Currently, gear support for Paladins is… lackluster, at best, and Purifiers aren’t that much better off outside of Dagallon set and just generic support from stand alone items. Shieldbreakers getting yet another set to potentially build around is just meh, but oh well, let them enjoy their ability to use anything remotely fire based to fair success.
And fire Retal builds are in a fairly meh spot too. Functional, but tend to be very MI dependent for fire retal affixes.
And Flames of Ignaffar, Righteous Fervor, and Grenado has yet to get a single actual fire damage set. The new Voidfiend set may be fire/chaos, but still will ultimately probably end up chaos centric ignoring the fire component outside of the burn for FoI. Mostly because people will just use the transmutor for the %damage increase. Grenado’s only sets are either cold Rimetongue or lightning Barrelsmith, and RF’s only set is physical retaliation.
But 1 set could 3 for one deal, and fix all of these issues.
A %fire damage + fire retal set using the belt, amulet, chest, and shoulder slots, that focuses on Flames of Ignaffar, Grenado, and Righteous Fervor.
The set would give FoI some Retal to attack (4% on amulet, -8% skill cost on amulet, 8% RATA on set bonus), have roughly 800 fire retaliation on each set piece, +8% RATA to attack+500 fire retaliation, 100% phys to Fire (On amulet?) on Righteous Fervor as set bonus, and give Grenado +15% RATA, -1 second CD (On amulet perhaps?), 100% pierce to fire to Grenado.
I’d probably accompany this with some minor nerfs to Mythical Hellborne Maw’s modifiers (Since the set can pick up some of the slack for the weapon, so the weapon doesn’t need to try and carry 100% of the build on it’s back as it used to for fire/retal RF or Grenado).
Great thing about this setup though is that it lets you use the set in a ton of different ways. Retal centric FoI Purifier/Paladin? Sure. Retal centric RF Paladin using Inquis WPS with Myth Hellborne Maw? No problem. Fire Grenado focus? Sure. Retal Grenado + Canister Bomb shieldbreaker, using Mythical Mask of Infernal Truth? Sure.
The basic set can give so many Fire retaliation builds that basis to build themselves off of that they currently lack, and can work for a lot of potential builds, and gives Fire Grenado, FoI, and Righteous Fervor some basis for set potential (All 3 of which don’t actually have set support for fire damage. Despite all 3 being fire supporting by default without transmutors, but yet the transmutors have set support.)
