Devotion help for my Mage Hunter

Hi,

I plan to start the expansion off with a Mage Hunter, based on cold and lightning damage. Mainly aiming for Rune of Hagarrad and Chilling Rounds / Storm Spread at this point.

Anyway, I’m quite lost when it comes to devotion points. Ultos, Shepherd of Storms seems really good to get, but even after staring at the devotion tree for a long time, I don’t really know how to get there efficiently.

Is there an easy way to see how to meet certain affinity requirements? Any tips on how I get to Ultos constellation?

Thanks

It depends on what are you going to use as your main attack skill. If it’s an auto-attack from dual pistols (or beronath fury weapon component) than I would recommend stacking elemental damage devotions. I would say Owl, Rhowari’s Crown, Hydra are all very solid choices for that. Not sure if you should choose new Ultos devotion or new Elemental devotion tho.

Have a look at http://www.grimtools.com/calc/p25AaG25

And I usually go backwards from T3 constallations (for that you need “Ignore devotion requirements” to be checked in your options), add others which I also want, and then I take care of meeting the affinity requirements.

I was thinking auto-attack dual pistols yes :).

Thanks for the tips so far !!!

Ok, so far so good. Level 39, halfway through Act 3 Normal. It’s been a load of fun, it’s so good to be back. Build works as I figured it would up to now, so that’s good :).

Question though: I’m not sure if I should take a second mastery or not. This is the build I have in mind if going strictly Inquisitor. I think that could work, but I’ve never reached endgame in GD before, so I’m not sure. So any opinions are welcome.

Arcanist sounds good to pair with the Inquisitor Mastery if it’s better I take a second one. I would mainly do this for Mirror and the Sphere of Protection. Although Elemental exchange, Arcane Will and a 1pt Inner Focus might be worth it too.

Thanks for any help.

You definitely want a second mastery in this game. It’s worthwhile just for the attributes. Every class has at least a few desirable supporting skills for any build.

For Arcanist you’d want to max Inner Focus. Crits and OA are essential for endgame damage. Add Elemental Balance through the IEE line on the top for more crit damage and Maiven’s + Mirror for defense and it’s a pretty hands-off addition.

Shaman is a good option for elemental resist reduction through Wind Devil’s Raging Tempest Modifier, Wendigo Totem for facetanking/healing, and Heart of the Wild for more HP. Theoretically Grasping Vines would work well with Runes and pistols to slow/ensnare enemies, but I haven’t tried them in a while and they weren’t great the last time around.

Thanks for your reply :).

I think I’ll go Arcanist then. That one was on my mind from the beginning, so … I have a few abilities that rely on crits, so I’ll definitely max Inner Focus. What about the rest though? Max as well, or are there certain thresholds to achieve and not go beyond that? For IEE / Elemental Balance, I wonder if it’s worth to take at all, but maybe that’s because I still have to get into game mechanics.

Next ‘issue’ is that I won’t have as many points in Inquisitor as planned out. So where to take them from? Skills like Chilling Round and Storm Spread seem to have level 6 as nice threshold, same goes for Artifact Handling. So I was thinking something like this build?

O yes, one thing I forgot to ask last time (well there will be a lot more down the road, but this one for now): how do I go about attribute distribution? Physique and Cunning? Or even Spirit? I seem to read that Physique trumps the other two most of the times, but it’s probably less straightforward then this …

Thanks :).

Power of word gives a pretty big health boost you’d need 400-500 physic to match it I think so I’d go with cunning/spirit for more damage and OA

With ‘power of word’ you mean ‘Word of Renewal’, right? I didn’t know it has such a big impact, compared to physique. Interesting. Will probably put quite some points into Cunning from now on in that case, as Crit chance seems very important for my build.

Any opinions on the build I suggested in my last post?

Yeah meant Word of Renewal sorry.
Yeah 8 points of physic = 20 health so its actually only 326 physic to match 10 points still a lot though and that’s not counting the over capped to match over capped probably need 600ish physic (I’m not sure sure how much health is got from over capped skill)

Yes crit is very important although you do get a nice rebuff from haggard as well

It looks pretty similar to my build except I’m using both runes instead of ranged.
I’m still only on veteran as I’m doing the expansion quest but nearly finished it so will be moving on to elite soon (mind you the expansion feels like it’s the same difficulty as last half of elite…) soon maybe my advise isn’t the best…

But if you still want it, drop all the points from base Word of Renewal the heal is very low and cooldown is long plus the buffs from the upgrades are so much better then the heal so you want them up 100% of the time meaning the skill will be likely be on cooldown when you’d need the heal. Instead use those 11 points to max Maivens Sphere and Mirror or Errecotes
