Does Crate actually own "their" ingame music?

SkewSound claimed my Youtube video for usage of the Forgotten Gods INGAME music.

We own the music, Skewsound does have our permission to distribute it though.

You were likely his by some automated process. I’ll ask them about it some time.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I am happy to be able to keep using the ingame music

This has been happening to me too but I’m so jaded and cynical over doing youtube presently, I just shrugged my shoulders accepted that these claims happen.

Yeah, Youtube won’t do anything about it but Crate might be able to apply some pressure on SkewSound. I hope this can be resolved. I don’t understand why somebody who just has permission to redistribute would claim to have full ownership of the IP in question

This is very likely not SkewsSound’s doing.

I have the same “problem”, I can not have video on youtube with gameplay of Forgotten Gods with music on.

I never had this issue with vanilla GD or AoM, or with any other computer game for that matter.

If they are using a 3rd-party company to go after people, it’s basically SkewSound going after people.

The thing is, it’s entirely possible SkewSound didn’t instigate/hire this company at all. There’s literally companies that go around making false claims on YouTube so they can reap the profits of others’ work despite having no ownership to the original piece. A good chunk of the automated flagging systems out there fall into this category, and I have high suspicions about “Audiam” given its severe lack of info about contacting the company.

Yeah, that might be the case but SkewSound isn’t anwering any of my inquiries so I am assuming they are responsible

Also in their (SkewSound) Youtube video of the track in question it literally states “licensed by Audiam” so that proves their affiliation no?

Edit: linked to track 3 instead of 1

Another false claim from SkewSound. They apparently just don’t care. Would be nice if somebody in charge could tell them to stop claiming property they have no rights to.

Hey Delkor,

We definitely do care, and we’ve been investigating since Crate brought it to our attention on Monday. Crate does give us permission to sell the soundtrack, and in doing so, the distributor Distrokid (that we use to put our music on Spotify, but didn’t know is a subsidiary of Audiam) is being heavy handed with their enforcement. Clearly it’s not working as intended for gameplay, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. We’re working with them to resolve this as quickly as we can.

Thanks!

Happy to read this. Thanks for the reply

Different track, same problem

It’s kinda funny that I am able to monetize Grim Dawn gameplay with the DIABLO 2 OST playing in the background but as soon as I use the INGAME music my videos are getting claimed. Can you fix this shit already? It’s getting ridiculous. Pull not even your music from Spotify if necessary

The license conflict was removed last week, but it will probably take Youtube time to update.

There isn’t anything further that Skewsound can do besides wait for the changes to kick in.
