Does tool’s efficiency really work?
I do experiments through SAW PIT.
BUILDING INFO:
A work yard where sawyers cut logs into planks. Tools are needed to work effciently at this building.
One is a saw pit operated by a worker without tools (work rate 95%).
The other by a worker with tools (work rate 91%).
Two saw pits built in the same location.
In one year, it turned out that the two saw pits made almost the same planks.
Even workers without tools produce a little more of the planks.
Efficiency of sawmills appears to be limited by your wood income and storage location. It doesn’t matter if that guy is university educated with tools if he can’t find any wood because the other sawyers and firewood choppers take it all. It’s a zero sum competition for materials.
We really need a job at the storage yard or wainwrights that stocks local jobsites so those workers don’t spend their whole time chasing materials instead of crafting.
Agreed. I had all of my foundry workers run all the way out to the mines to pick up ore, even though there was some in the closer stock yard. The AI related to ‘stocking’ in general is pretty bad.
I guess my point was that tools are only effective on work efficiency while job efficiency takes into account travel time to shelter, food, materials, and storage. This means tools are a fractional bonus on a fraction of your efficiency and you might need to refine your experiments to answer your question.
