Don't force us to put down the town center to start

So many great locations I find on a map but I can’t start there because you won’t let us explore a little first, or let us flatten land, or let us move the town center. I only have so much time before winter so I can’t exactly scout the entire map, but doing a little flattening or exploring would be nice.

Best is if we could move the town center and allow us to not place it right away. Let us move our city if we want.

You can scroll around the whole area your villagers have explored before you decide where to put your TC down. Make a note of where things are on your explored area because much of it will be hidden again by fog of war once the TC is placed. You may need to send a villager out to uncover a fishing spot or deer herd area for example so you will have a food source before winter sets in.

Hello.
Could you try to explain this thing to me better than how to choose the place to position the city center?
I started several games and I have never, I say never, managed to find a good place to place it. Although at the beginning the map appears all perfectly visible.
It will probably be because I’m a bit stupid …

I admit it’s a bit annoying having the TC attached to your cursor, but you can still scroll around the map noting fertile spots for fields (F key to show those) and to see what resources and where they are (F4 key for those). How easy it’ll be to find a spot depends on what type of map you get or chose at the start. Alpine and Low Lakelands can be difficult to find a good spot since you may get more hills/mountains and lakes with those two. Plains can be flatter so might be more suitable. Low Lakelands is the easiest for starting since it has more resources that the other maps do.

Once you do find a spot you like and put the TC down then most of the explored area will be hidden again. This is why I suggest noting where things like fishing, foraging spots and deer are so if they do get hidden again you can send a villager out to uncover them. Also make sure you don’t put the TC down near wolf or boar dens as they will attack your villagers if they come too near to them.

And remember that even the initial explored area you can scroll around is a small part of the whole map. There will be more to uncover as you grow your town.

Hello.
Thank you. You were enlightening.
It’s hard when you have a single digit IQ, like in my case …

Yes, I’m quite aware of how it currently works. And I don’t like how I’m forced to ONLY place the town center immediately. I can’t flatten land to put it where I want. I can’t explore a bit to find a better spot. I’m forced to pick between the flat-enough places for the town center in the limited radius I’m given. And then I have no ability to move to a better location later if I find it.

I find the current mechanic just fine. It would be too easy if you can do what ever you want, whenever you want. Don’t you think so?
I know it is annoying some times, but this is a survival city builder  … for everything else tehre is EoE2.

No, I don’t think so. It has nothing to do with survival at all.

This is what I’m talking about. Because I can’t flatten I can’t put the town center where I want. If I want to risk dying to winter because I took time to flatten the land, I should be able to do that. I can’t move it later either.
