Dont make Grim Dawn 2!

Agreed. LE’s art and animation always felt off to me. It feels a bit unpolished.

You can always consider buying the loyalist packs to support the devs. Loyalist packs are comprised of cosmetics for your character.

I own the loyalist packs.
I have this weird obsession with owning cosmetics, even if I don’t use them.

The whole game feels janky and kinda unpolished imo. I had to refund it and go back to GD.

After engine update it feels much better now. It is strange game for me… I just cannot stop polishing my toons in it. Just like in GD… I think LE is potential unpolished gem. But that is just me

Perhaps I should give it another go than. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you’re looking for another ARPG until Fangs drops. You can give Svarog’s Dream a try.
It was made by a small team (1 guy + his wife + few part timers IIRC). So, there’s some jank but there’s a decent amount of depth to it.

A bit off-topic, does anyone remember what’s the approximate release period for Fangs? Is it Q3/Q4 2025 or is it sometime in 2026?

Will test some day for sure as Savrog is a Slavic god so it could interesting also lorewise for me

Opinion on visual direction aside, they have superior lighting and particle systems, even if just by virtue of using a more modern engine built to run on current hardware. Grim Dawn’s engine is backwards compatible with forms of DirectX that archaeologists are probably studying today to catalogue the evolution of videogames.

There are diminishing returns with each DLC, and the opportunity cost rises. Working on the same project forever is also not that exciting for professionals in an inherently creative industry.

Idk why but that made me laugh

Well… it’s probably true. The supported API is 20 years old.

I am an old guy and have played many, many games. On that list is Diablo 1, 2 and 3 (not 4). I’ve dabbled with POE1. I was on Everquest the week it came out, moved to WOW (but was actually disappointed after EQ) then moved on to Eve Online. Baulders Gate is on the list along with the Civilization Series, etc.

Grim Dawn I came across a few years after its initial release. Not since the original Everquest have I enjoyed playing a game so much. While we can certainly wish for better graphics, more robust interface, etc. etc. the real thing I believe that holds a game together is the implemented rules of the game play and the balance within the game. GD performs spectacularly in that regard. The game is very fun to play and offers a good mental challenge in character build mode.

Sure, Grim Dawn 2 would be great. That said, I have seen lots of games with a 2 at the end of their name that lost the spirit and vibe of the original. I certainly hope any sequel would use the original game play approach, rules and balance as a solid foundation. Graphics are great, but I can easily settle for older graphics in exchange for superior game play.

Don’t forget Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Siege
But yes, I couldn’t agree more.

LE has an uneven graphic design and is, for me, devoid of its unique artistic style. The game has its moments but nothing more. GD has consistent graphics and a very cool style in my opinion. I hope GD 2 will feature a cool grim art style that will stand the test of time well, because as we all know, games devoid of “cool dash” that go for realism get old fast.

People laughed at D3 for looking cartoony, for looking like a picture painted with paints, but in retrospect the graphics in D3 look just as good as they did in 2012 except for the character models which you can see have aged. Such D4 in 20 years will also look good. It’s just that such a style of its own probably costs money… Or maybe not? Maybe it’s just a matter of artists’ skills.

One problem with the visuals in other arpgs, and an area in which Grim Dawn excels, is that they focus the camera too closely on the player character. That means that you can see very little area of the world in which the character is currently, and then you cannot really enjoy it. Even if there is variety and interesting environmental features, you simply don’t notice it with that close of a zoom.

Another thing is the color palette, most other games are too grey/too washed out. You can have great contrast and colors and dark atmosphere. D2R and Grim Dawn prove that.

So, yeah, by some criteria, the visual quality in other games might be better by some criteria than in Grim Dawn (say, the textures are more detailed), but Grim Dawn’s overall visual package is extremely good and has a unique charm to it.

That’s right, that’s why the color scheme used in D4 very quickly begins to bore me visually. That’s how everything looks almost the same and even the mobs can blend in with their surroundings. They probably thought that if they made everything gray and washed out of color then the game would automatically become “dark”, but it doesn’t work that way. And yes Diablo 2 is much more atmospheric than D4, thanks also to the excellent soundtrack.
