I’m playing a cooldown/DoT caster for the first time. (Sentinel with AoM & Dreeg’s Evil Eye) Quite different from the melee and channel-casters I’ve played before.
But now I’m wondering about the exact interactions between DoTs and RR
Situation:
Mark of Dreeg (flat RR) on weapon
Murmur (%RR) on Dreeg’s Evil Eye
If I hit an enemy with DEE and both effects trigger, does the RR apply on:
The initial damage?
The initial poison tick?
Subsequent poison ticks?
Only after I re-apply Dreeg’s Evil eye?
Is there a difference between the RR from the Mark (weapon) and Murmur (secondary devotion?)
Basically I’m trying to decide if it would be better to put the devotion on Curse of Frailty instead. Lower chance, but with that I can wait until it applies before throwing the DEE.
Based on testing I did in the past I’d say neither of these RRs affect any damage part of the initial DEE shot so reapplication is needed. Also you can test it on a dummy.
Murmur on CoF is nice vs group of enemies but really bad vs single target imo.
If you want some additional proccer for your build / rotation then Dreeg’s Afflicted Spine from Dreeg's Affliction - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database is amazing because it has increased chance (so for example 50% to proc Murmur) due to cooldown per every of its many projectiles which also have pass-through.
Thanks for the tip, I hadn’t considered that relic. I was planning on using Meditation to max out AoM & get the passive buff, but reliable RR proccing may well be more important. I’ll be sure to give it a try.
One more thing. Remember that this (in red circle below) scales with % weapon damage on a skill (up to 100%) so if you have only 50% weapon damage on DEE for example you only get 50% * 15 = 7.5 Reduced Target’s Resistances. Unless the proc below happens which applies 15 regardless of weapon damage on your skill.
But then again Focused Gaze has Total damage increase, I wonder if it scales Weapon damage up for this purpose of scaling 15 RR on Mark of Dreeg Do you know @Gnomish_Inquisition ?
I’ve done some tests with the dummy, and yes, it seems the DoTs are not affected by RR applied after the DoT hits.
As for the % weapon damage thing: I am aware of this. But I’d forgotten that Aegis of Menhir (which has much higher weapon damage) only applies the effect when it’s on the SHIELD.
Oddly enough, both skills can activate the proc even if the mark is only on the weapon or the shield…
So bottom line: I should put the mark of Dreeg on the shield instead of my weapon, and use Aegis first, so the DEE hit will get the reduction. (And Aegis will get it on the next hit as it has a much shorter cooldown.)
(I don’t know either if total damage modified actually modifies % weapon damage, but my gut feeling is that it does not. From a programming point of view it would make FAR more sense to implement it as a single modifier at the end of the damage calculation, than something applied on all the in-between numbers.)
Yes, it does affect Weapon damage but I have similar expectation that this doesn’t affect RR scaling due to how it’s coded.
Btw I played Poison Retaliation DEE + Aegis in the past (Poison Retal is no longer in the game, removed in some patch) when I did all that testing.
I remember being frustrated that the RR on the rings below doesn’t work with Aegis (unless it resets) because it has longer cooldown that the 2s duration of this RR:
However, they SHOULD work if you use a DIFFERENT attack and then immediately follow up with Aegis, right?
Of course, you’d need a different attack with at least 100% weapon damage… that’s not DEE or Aegis… yeah, I see where your frustration comes from.
Spam casters have it easy in comparison, just get + weapon damage on DEE and spam away. But on the other hand, it’s also pretty fun to hit a boss with 2 attacks and then run around for a bit and watch him die.
