Dungeons?

I was expecting the tutorial/modding guide to be a little be more intuitive and extensive, however, it is very bleak…

Honestly, Titan Quest had a better modding guide because it explained every feature instead of just some and it had an example of how to create a quest from start to finish instead of just being like “here’s the tools, do it”.

But, with that said, and I have some knowledge of the Titan Quest tools, I’m not sure how to create dungeons well within the terrain editor. The grid tool in Titan Quest made it a lot easier to create rooms and what not, but it doesn’t exist now. I’ve found assets where you can place floors/walls manually, but that doesn’t really explain how to go up/down levels.

Is there a better way about doing this? I wish it was explained better in the guide.

Nobody has tried dungeons? I literally looked everywhere and I still can’t figure out how to do it. It looks like they changed the format, especially since the grid tool seems to have disappeared.

Seriously, nobody has tried dungeons yet? Why is this not covered in the guide?

If you are looking for the Grid System from TQ, it does not exist in Grim Dawn, and so the guide does not cover it.

Grim Dawn dungeons are put together using terrain sculpting and asset placement.

I appreciate the response.

I suppose I’ll have to take a look at what is provided and see if I can create some interior/dungeon areas to create some kind of illusion.

I’m assuming there is a certain line of sight, right? You shouldn’t be able to see past walls/rocks? Is there a way to specify that or defaulted?

jejeje!!! I got crazy looking for the grip option of Grim Dawn… thank you for resolve issue…

Zantai, I have a question… you have to use “grip” if you are making dungeon levels instead a normal terrain?

but why modding tools dont have Grid System? I read in Guide it must be

I think the community is making the tutorials, and hopefully we can get Crate feedback when we falter.

That carbon paper is such a superior technology over copy machines! Grids are limited, but the terrain tool we have in GD is good (maybe even better than good, but I haven’t focused on it.)

It’s true, it is substantially more advanced, so you could create some impressive interiors.

However, it is considerably more time consuming but that’s the trade off.

Hi, sounds for me like you search only the entrance / doors functions.
This is explained in the editor-guide.

Editor Guide: Dungeon Entrances, used to link transition doors together. This is important for Dungeon Entrances and transitions between dungeon floors. Link Mode is used to connect dungeon entrances when one or both sides are randomized (ex. Randomized Rift entrance). It is important that the link is made in both directions or the entrance will not work. To link two groups together, you toggle Link Mode and click on the black Dot that indicates the center point of the group you are linking to.

I will give you example pics how you can do this.
First pic up 2 entrance points - records / level art / undergrounds / setpiece_ xy what ever you like here.

After placing, go to the link mode in the editor :
Create a new group.Type:dungeon entrance, choose your first entrance.
Create a second group.Type dungeon entrance, choose your second entrance.

Go back to your first group an activate the link mode function.click the black dot on the other entrance. looks like :

Go to your second group and activate the link mode.click the black dot on the other entrance.

Now we have links in both directions and we can use our dungeon entrance.
If you like now to build a new interior for your dungeon, this is also easy.

Go to, editor layout mode - region / create new terrain.

On your new terrain, place an entrance and delete the old second entrance point on your first world.Go back in the editor to the link mode and link your new entrance to the groups you have created.

The first plate in the last pic is our main world, the second plate is an interior dungeon.

Sorry for my bad English.I hope you can follow, because its really simple.

But when you want to create a cave or basement you have to use the “terrain” or “grip” option?

Luckily the “snap to grid” under Creation Parameters serves the same general purpose for alighnment and works with all rotation.

Why they leave the grips option?

As far as I know, no one’s been able to load the actual game map, so dungeons are pretty far up the learning curve.

See the tutorial list thread, it has been done I believe. I was busy working on mods so I haven’t followed their tutorial. Also, I have 4GB of RAM so I wasn’t expecting to load the map with everything. I did load the master list of zones, was quite impressed. My biggest barrier to playing more with the map editor is user skill, and developing that skill is restricted by time available. I’d rather work on mods in the dbr side of things anyway.
