EZ's Question Thread

Hey everyone, I am new-ish to this game and I am making this thread for whenever I need to ask a question.

Let’s start off by asking some questions about pets and gear to buff them.

Right now I am trying to make a pet build, and it seems like only the affixes that say “bonus to pets” seem to buff them other than skill buffs to the pet itself. The bonus to pets type of affix is insanely rare and I cannot seem to find better gear to be able to take some hits without degrading my pet performance.

Am I doing something wrong with the way I am gearing? Or am I doomed to be this squishy for the sake of my pets being power houses?

I am also having issues with monster aggro, if I cast anything on them while my pets are attacking, they will immediately stop attacking my pets and come for me instead. Even if I wait for a solid 10 seconds before casting a curse or something on them, 9/10 they will blitz me. Is there something I can do to avoid getting targeted? Because right now it seems completely pointless to have all of these debuff skills if all they are going to do is paint a glow-in-the-dark bulls-eye on my forhead.

Finally, does Offensive/Defensive power revolve around pets to? The system is kind of confusing to begin with.

The are several items, which provide Protection from Taunting - search by that term on Graceful Dusk.

Other than that you might need to remove some points from you debuffs or unlearn one of them.

I assume you are wearing a caster off-hand item. Make a virtue out of necessity - equip a shield and get some defensive procs and devotions. If your shield has the Keeper’s prefix, you have an additional temporary pet. Edit: Just realized that the equivalent for focuses is the of Binding suffix.

Offensive and Defensive Ability apply to anything.

Well that sucks. According to that database, there are a handful of greens (most of which are faction specific) that give you taunt protection, and the rest are blues and purples? Why can’t this affix roll on yellows? I don’t have any of that stuff on that list… Same goes for those other affixes you mentioned, I have yet to see anything like that either.

My debuffs and attack skills only have 1 skill point in them, and I have no skill increases for them either. So even at level one, they are going straight for me instead of my minions which is making boss fights really damn hard and tedious. All of my points have been dumped into mastery and my 2 pets so far, and my one point wonders are there to proc debuffs and buffs from devotion.

You have options. What are your mastery(s)? If you are using Occultist then Curse of Frailty to slow em down. If Shaman you have Grasping Vines to slow em with. Spec into both masteries and use both, even better.

I am already spec’d in both Occultist and Shaman. I have only 1 point in the vines, blood of dreeg, and curse of frailty. The rest of my points I have dumped into mastery because the gear requirements for physique are quite unforgiving. Right now I am trying to kick up some more levels to put into a pet stat passive, but still I am attracting so much attention to myself even just by standing there. I will send my minions way ahead and sit back, and half of them will come after me as soon as they start fighting. I am starting to wonder if my squishyness is attracting them. lol

I would assume your pets need to deal more AoE damage. Which celestial skill have you assigned to which pet? And can you provide us with a link to your current build: https://grimcalc.com/Mastery/Conjurer (incl. Devotion).

Have a look at this guide

It’ll give you good info for levelling, gear, etc.

With regards to aggro specifically:

  • don’t get close before sending in your pets
  • from max range, click Pet Attack on an empty space near the pack rather than on a specific monster
  • wait a couple of seconds before taking any direct action e.g. debuffing

There are a few mobs who will lock onto you anyway, but as you get used to managing the aggro you’ll find that those situations are by far the exception rather than the rule.

Having a strong burst capability e.g. Doombolt to knock down anything that’s really being annoying is helpful. I also found that the AOE reactive knockback effect on Arcane Harmony Leggings was hugely effective as self defense.

Also, pet speed bonuses! If your pets are moving fast enough then you can just Pet Attack anything that’s bothering you and have them sprint over to take out the trash so you can get back to your brandy, cigars, and watching the carnage.

Also, since you don’t need to boost damage stats your very high Physique, armor values, and resistances should mean that you can take a couple of hits withoutr worrying too much.

Wow, this is actually pretty close to what I am trying to run with. (Darn, someone beat me to it!)

I may as well ask about gear on that thread, because like what others have suggested in various threads, I do not have all of the blue items that are on display.
