Now most of you have probably noticed the lack of builds based on this weapon.
Well it’s very easy to build around
Fire Justicar Forcewave
Fire based CT
Fire Strike 2h
Cadence 2h
Savagery 2h (Stormcaller for Crits, in case anyone is wondering)
All of the above are easy to build and not much thought needs to be put in these builds
Note: i only have Fire Strike 2h and Fire based Forcewave the rest are builds made by my friends
I did however notice some problems with the weapon
- Weapon-
The weapon itself is solid. It has got a shit ton of flat fire damage and plus skills
The weapon is pretty much brute force incarnate, just equip it and smash!!
So it’s easy to build around and works with a wide array of builds
So weapon is 10/10 for me
- Granted Skill-
This is where i noticed the problem
I was using Infernal Brimstone before World Eater. Brimstone had a really nice proc but overall weapon is weaker than World Eater
World Eater’s skill itself is pretty solid with the AoE. Problem is the usage of it in practical gameplay
Let me break it down
Firstly, let me talk about the granted skill -
Shar’Zul’s Wrath
- Strong Fire and Burn damage
- Shotgun skill
- Large radius
- Scales with Cast Speed
- Coolest fucking animaton in the entire fucking game (If you’re a new player then you’ll realize awesomeness is half the battle)
Possible builds and Shar’Zul’s Wrath’s accommodation in them-
- Fire Forcewave-
Easy build, Justicar Set and World Eater and you’re done
Forcewave itself has AoE potential, and should i ever feel i am getting swarmed i can easy reposition
Even in cases i can’t re-position (obsidian/bone prison traps), i have enough AoE and proc going on to escape with ease
Now, i could use the granted skill here. But there’s is zero need for me to do that.
- Fire CT-
This is a friend’s build, never tried it myself but works pretty well. Now this build has got a strong burn potential, more so than others
CT has radial damage and AoE, i see zero reason to use Shar’Zul’s Wrath here.
Even in Valbury when things got tough the Granted skill wasn’t of much help
Now the build itself was then modified to a Burn Build using WoA, it was doing something but not sure if it was optimal or even good
He removed the weapon and switched to GrimFate plus Shield (because Warpfire + Off Hand combo would give inaccurate results as Warpfire plus Off hand is BiS for most burn builds)
Now this Fate’s proc combined with Will of the Living despite being awkward to use was giving much better staying power
Burn wasn’t needed as procs were enough, and shield gives staying power to some defree
- Melee (Savagery, Cadence, FS)-
FS already has innate AoE and in the other two skills despite the lack of AoE. The procs and devotions killed most of the stuff. A little health lost but no deaths due to BS, MoE and Tonic of mending
And the skill is a DPS loss due to scaling with cast speed.
- Conflagration build-
Final test, i had this old build which is revived.
I ran two simple tests, one was with Shar’Zul’s Weapon. The other used procs
And guess what, Shar’Zul’s Weapon lost again.
The biggest issue is the proc despite being needed in an AoE situation and despite being strong enough to be useful in an AoE situation isn’t very optimal (which is troublesome considering where we obtain this item from)
Results/Conclusions-
- AoE potential-
This is solid here. At 200% Cast Speed there is no delay due to animation
But the skill itself feels misplaced on the weapon, neither casters need it (not the ones we tested with atleast)
Conflagration ray caster needed it for AoE, but i got much better results with a shield in terms of AoE (again off-hand is pretty obviously BiS)
- Burn Potential-
I am fairly certain you guys didn’t intend this for burn builds because if so then it fails miserably when compared to say Stormreaver (that lightning poleaxe)
The weapon has now improved duration to be able to support this DoT. The granted skill has a decent DoT but it’s still not enough for burn build to even consider using it
Shields/Off Hands are much better. Shields and Off Hands are usually better but i have played 2h casters a lot and Shar’Zul’s Wrath needs improvement
- Devotion proc-ing-
Now upon comparing this with Storm Tap Granted by Stormreaver then Shar’Zul’s Wrath fails at procining devotions as well
Suggestions-
1. Turn it into a proc and weaken it’s output
- If you want to keep it as a granted skill then rename it and shift it to something other than this weapon. The skill is extremely awkwardly placed on a two handed weapon
