Fire Strike Commando (need devotion help)

Hey guys,

i try to build a fire-strike commando who is using rifle.
The idea is to deal -of course- fire damage but also decent physical.
This is the build so far:

I really have a problem with devotions. Twohanded ranged means
going kraken and hydra is a must. I also plan to use falcon swoop
for single target damage…
Which other devotions are adviced? Maybe behemoth for defense
and ulzuins torch for damage?

Rough idea

You’re getting too greedy with Temper there. Focus on either fire or physical

2 point skills indicate they’re supposed to be maxed (not overcapped)
1 point skills indicate they’re 1-pointers

Min-Maxing of skills depends on the gear you get

Thanks man.
So hydra is not really worth it?

My 2H melee/ranged commando

It’s far from optimal, actually the rework is long past due. But I do use him to farm ultimate atm.

Advice is welcome.

Hmm

Well for starter pick either ranged or melee

Devotion advice is carbon copy of what i posted above

You can drop BWC and Markovian if you use the devotion setup i suggested

Your current setup is too defensive, i have tested it using DW and Empyrion is too weak for Fire builds and seems to work well with Fire to Chaos builds due to racial damage.

I know you play HC but you’re gimping offense too much imho

If War Cry doesn’t suit you then use Oleron’s Might

I plan to drop both Empyreon and Crane. It’s a leftover from the time I played dressed in faction gear (actually I had ToL too back then). Now I think I can cover resistances without them. The problem is once I drop LoE the logical follow-up is to drop Obelisk, but I’m not prepaired to give up +150 Armor, because I wear Ulzuin’s set and it’s low on armor. :undecided:

Core build is 2H melee with infernal brimstone, rifle is only against moosilauke and bennjar, cuz I don’t like how they remove 50% of my hp with a single attack.

I use transmuted BWC instead of Warcry. Weapon has Haunted Steel, but it’s yet again a leftover from 1.0.0.7 patch.

Drop Ulzuin and go Justicar for extra DA

You’d loose RR but gain flat fire damage and much needed physical resistance. Compensate for lost skills by moving some points. Amulet slot should be free now use Eye of Beronath (since you’re HC) to debuff enemy OA to add to defenses

For Ben and Moose, just get out of the way when you see that attack.

P.S

That Battlemage you helped me with, i shelved it completely due to being a sucky build with single target
Ty for the help

I only got Chest and Hands at the moment :undecided:
Also I’m short on skillpoints.

Sad to hear about it, but to be honest I expected as much. Crits are just not what they are used to be. :frowning:

For Ben and Moose, just get out of the way when you see that attack.

Now if only I had a durable character to safely train dodging this attack. Right now I only got this commando and DW trickster, which is also in a line for rework.

Yeah gear is a problem and i don’t suppose you have some juicy double rare MIs lying around right :undecided:

Yeah thing is I didn’t understand what you meant by this when you told me this way back but now i can see it clearly

Thanks for the help i got some cool ideas from it

It’s too easy to spot and dodge. Don’t worry just mind your surroundings

With moose just make sure you’re not getting frozen

There may be two options for you regarding devotion.

First one is to go all offense and take Ulzuin’s torch. http://grimcalc.com/build/1008-R6iCGL

Second is to go defensive and take ToL http://grimcalc.com/build/1008-OrwVnF

In either case better keep Solael’s witchblade and Rhowan’s crown for debuffing. Hydra explicitly states it is for one handed ranged weapons. Which rifles are not.

Regarding skills, you may want to incorporate warcry there somehow, maybe at the cost of less points in auras and flashbang, but if you do, make it so it is at level 12.

You should also put points in scars of battle, its one of the main advantages of being a soldier together with field command. Make it so you only need 1 scaled hide to bring your armor absorption to 100%. Emp. legplates of valor can help you with that and are easy to find. Later you may check if your gear also improve armor absorption, and alter points and gear accordingly.

Somehow your name always reminds me of Warcraft III and i get the urge to play it.

Though if i do then i might not complete Life is Strange (last puzzle at the moment)

Hello btw

Oh hi, warcraft III is something I almost completely missed, being occupied with something else in life. So I only remember II

Hydra: this Constellation now also works with Two-Handed Ranged Weapons. Increased % All damage by 10%, reduced Offensive Ability by 5, reduced % Offensive Ability to 3%, removed % Attack Speed

Take a guess on patch number.

Spoiler: B31

I’ve been testing rifle commando for the past two weeks. Fire strike rifle is notoriously difficult. 2 handed is bead for fire strike because it has mostly flat damage bonuses which benefit dual weapons (melee or ranged).

Hydra certainly not a must, that is more for valdun or Deathdealr/havoc type build.

This is my dps setup for firestrike : http://grimcalc.com/build/1008-ChL0vR

Skills included. You didn’t take oleron rage and that is not a good idea. One of the benefits of soldier is having 2 sources of OA which can be 2800-300.

Also Scars of battle. This is an amazing Passive. Makes your armor relevant, gives resistance to stun bleed and freeze. 7/8 or even 8/8.

Fighting spirit is not worth it unless you have a lot of + to soldier kills.

PS: Fire strike for 2h is so weak i’m using Cadence…40K vs 80K hits

What about Rifles? Cause i found brimstone splinter to be very effective

You seem to be missing 1 Purple affinity for Chariot. Also, is Falcon worth it on a Fire heavy build? I’d never really considered it before for FS Commando.

Actually, it just says “Requires a ranged weapon”. I just tested it, and it does work with 2H.

This is an interesting topic for me…I have a couple of 2H hybrid FS Commando builds and I’ve been thinking the past few days about re-doing and optimising for 1.0.0.8.

I currently have a similar devotion setup as Mammoth’s except no Crown (using flat rr from BWC), with the points in Hydra instead for more OA ^^

Gear is the bit I need to play with. Currently I have one char in Ulzuin’s and one piecemeal (Divinesteel, Infernal Mask, Shadowflame, Justic gloves, MIs etc.). I haven’t experimented with full Justicar yet.

Something to keep me occupied over the weekend…

Ty for pointing it out

Falcon isn’t central but OP wanted it there. Like i said devotion can be done in many ways

So is that a Physical, or Pierce focussed build?

My bad, didn’t read the OP properly

I leveled with a Brimstone Repeater…then switched to Hellborne. The ONLY complaint I have with Rifle FS is that I feel very squishy. Flesh Hulks are a pain. But, I don’t really have any legendaries for him, so being under-geared is likely the prime culprit.
