Didn´t even occur to me, that FF could be downgraded. So thanks for this.
New version doesn´t seem to be faster than the old one, so I did downgrade for now, until noscript is working with V57.

Yeah, a bit of a bummer with noscript, but as I’m also running umatrix I’m fine with the update.
Word of caution, however! If you downgrade to an earlier version of Firefox you’re also getting rid of the security fixes done for v57, which makes it more insecure than using v57 without noscript or switching browsers entirely for the time being.
Indeed, as FF has been rewritten from the ground up, so probably a good reason to upgrade for the extra security. Hopefully noscript will be final soon, as I am feeling a bit naked without it!
Lets hope that the new version comes soon!!!
And they seem to have updated my version of Firefox, even though I didn’t ask for it. :undecided:
If Firefox 57:
Select the “Menu” button in the upper-right corner. (the three horizontal bars)
Click Options
Scroll down to Firefox Updates
Click “Check for updates but let you choose to install them” (Or other selection you choose)
Close the tab.
Thanks ibugsy. I’ll do that tomorrow. I usually that that setting for downloads. Don’t like not knowing what’s being put on my machine without forewarning (Adobe I’m talking about you).
Still a bit annoyed that noscript isn’t released yet. I really do feel very naked without it. Still, I don’t really go to too many sites for the time being, but the wait for noscript is killing me.
FF is helpless without that awesome addon.
Damn…Was hoping you had posted to say it’s updated :furious:
I will when it does get updated
It’s just not yet, so maybe tomorrow, (fingers crossed) otherwise it might be another delay.
Good news and bad news.
The good news is that noscript is finally out for FF 57
The bad news is, it seems to be a bit buggy still, and I can’t seem to download it, it gives me a connection error when I try, (hopefully temporary and probably due to the server been busy.
Anyway, thought I would let you all know. Hopefully things will get sorted out in due time. But still, its been a massive amount of work to port this thing over, But I’m still wondering if the move to web extension is really worth it?
Time will tell I guess.
Edit
I right clicked on the download link and downloaded it that way, then dropped it into the FF window, I don’t think it imported my settings from the previous version, and it sure does look like a strange interface, going to have to play around with it.
Yeah, it updated automatically for me and the UI is…eh…definitely takes some getting used to and I hope they streamline it going forward. Looks a bit cobbled together to be honest.
Cheers matthewfarmery. I was just about to try your link until reading Malgardian’s post and then noticed that I’ve got a noscript icon back as well…yeah it’s just a trifle different that’s for sure. I’m sure it will make some form of sense after I’ve prodded it enough
Damn good to have it back though.
Edit… So far all my settings are as I left them so haven’t even had to prod it yet.
At last…the “Temp allow all” is back :D:D:D
And Firefox seems to a semi casual user, to be getting more broken as the days go by. While having a working noscript would be nice, it turns out that Firefox now cannot run Java anyway.
Did a completely clean fresh reinstall of windows a couple of days ago, installed Java for something or other, it opened Firefox (default browser) to confirm that Java had been installed okay and there’s a message from Java stating that it doesn’t and most probably won’t ever work with FF and the recommendation from Java is to ditch FF due to the changes that FF have made.
So if this is all correct then FF is useless on any pages that use Java.
The only browsers that support it anymore are an old version of FF (52 ESR) and IE 11. You can apparently also use the 64-bit Waterfox browser.
Even Oracle is recommending moving away from a plugin-based web… Moving to a Plugin-Free Web so I’m finding all this FF hate slightly humorous, as if the bully known as Oracle is some kind of infallible God
It’s been apparently known since at least Oct 2015 that this was in the FF timeline for coming changes, as well as plenty of other browsers. Apparently old news. NPAPI Plugin Perspectives and the Oracle JRE
Sorry what planet are you on, you’re the only one that mentioned oracle, I sure as hell didn’t, so where did this oracle rant come from with my post then, the complaints about FF is because it’s simply is getting worse and worse as a useable browser.
If you want to rant on about oracle, then crack on, but don’t use me as an excuse for starting your rant :rolleyes:
Oracle… Java… Oracle… Java… hmmmmm something something something. Might be related.
I’ve been running FF a bit lately to see what all the fuss is about… seems usable enough to me yet.
Oh yeah !!! just the sort of info the casual internet user is going to be running across
Well if you haven’t been running FF in the past with various addons and plugins then running without isn’t really going to make any difference to you is it
Edit… You need to remember that FF has always marketed itself as the browser you can customise to suit yourself with addons and plugins and it’s now going away from that idea.
That’s rather beside the point. Naturally not everyone is going to be aware of everything. The point is that it wasn’t something that was suddenly done out of the blue with no forewarning.
Who says that I didn’t use FF alot in the past? They made changes they felt they needed to make to remain competitive.
Firefox aims to win back Chrome users with its souped up Quantum browser
Can’t say I blame them considering that most every browser has been on the decline since the arrival of Google Chrome.
Honestly I don’t see what the big hubbub is about NoScript. Never used it. Never needed to. If one 3rd party addon makes or breaks a browser then I don’t know what to say to you folks. Looks like they have adjusted and adapted to the changes tho https://noscript.net/ and are doing just fine and the Noscript author appears to be warming up to the changes.
NoScript, “Quantum” vs “Legacy” in a nutshell
For my own part, as far as quintessential addons go, uBlock Origin is all one needs.
The death of these plugins was announced years ago, all good browsers are doing it. If you haven’t heard something about this - like about flash which suffered the same fate as java - I have to wonder if we’re using the same internet.
