First week of playing feedback -- UI

Some feedback after my first week of playing. Been playing LAN with one other person and just finished “Act 1” and starting to go west now:

  • Please, please let there be a toggle/key to display interactive objects (corpses, chests, etc). Sometimes the game’s darkness/low contrast (it’s pretty, don’t get me wrong!) makes them tough to see.
  • It’d be quite grand to see your skills’ “hover text” after all modifiers are applied (before/after equipment? undecided). Once you’ve learned the active skill and a bunch of passives for it, it can be tough to see the the final result. This can be its own window just for reviewing. This also would apply to pets. Hovering over the skill icon in the skill bar could do this – but only for actives. Nightblade’s big passive chain wouldn’t work there.
  • The devotion window really needs a bit more contrast. Again, while it’s pretty, it’s really overwhelming to find things, browse what’s there and even to find, “now where had I already invested?” At least make the highlight-constellation-colors sticky if you click on one?
  • I love the UI scaling option! However, it makes the text pretty ugly, especially in the lore/journal/help window. Also, with scaling up, sometimes item hovers scroll off the edge of the screen and you can’t see it all (specially on rares with a triggered ability and a component put onto it). It might be nice to see that auto-shrink to fit.
  • The text window can cover good bits of the inventory/vendor, making it hard to shift-click-link items to chat. When linking from a vendor, include the vendor name being sent to chat?
  • We’ve run into a couple situations where my partner and myself couldn’t see each others’ gear on the model (inspect window was okay) until exiting/restarting the multiplayer session.

Notice how these aren’t game play issues… Just UI ones! We’ve had a ton of fun thus far.

We’ve run into a couple situations where my partner and myself couldn’t see each others’ gear on the model (inspect window was okay) until exiting/restarting the multiplayer session.

Fix I found: drop the item, loot it, equip it again.

Definitely wish there was a key to toggle the object outlines as well.

As I’ve played more, I definitely can say that the devotion screen is by far the one needing the most work. It’s just a big, sprawling, pretty mess. You have to hover over EVERYTHING before you can choose anything. Some possible improvements:

More functional visuals:

  • Desaturate the background colors so you can see the constellations themselves better.
  • Make the stars/lines a big bigger/bolder.
  • Make it easier to see the constellations unavailable/available/progressed in. Ditto invested/uninvested stars within the constellations.
  • Color the constellations themselves permanently [as a toggle] according to their affinities, when you select one of them at the left instead of only just temporarily.

Better evaluation interactions:

  • When hovering over a constellation, show the TOTAL bonuses/available bonuses of the whole constellation, so you can get the big picture (currently, you only see this with its completion affinities). One shouldn’t have to look at and read every star and sum them up themselves to make their decisions.
