Uhh, what? Nothing in my post implied that i want online competitiveness of any kind. I’m actually glad this game doesn’t have closed servers, seasons, or ladders. The person i was responding to pretty much implied that he/she wants forced competition in this game with closed servers.
Sorry, I quoted the wrong person then.
I’ve played multiple leagues in PoE, and it’s not cheating-free at all. There are tons of botters especially in the first weeks of a new league which impact on the game economy, and you can easily recognize them from the character / account names they use for selling items on the official trade site, lol.
That said, I mostly play single player in all H’nS / ARPGs and I don’t think that PoE’s multiplayer system is better than GD’s one. In PoE, competitive ladders are dominated by streamers and their working squads which farm currencies for them while they spam maps / breaches to level up as fast as possible. I don’t even consider that a competition, since it involves a minimum part of personal skill and a huge factor of time spent and group organization.
Even D2LoD’s ladders weren’t attractive as a “competition” for me because the first players to reach level 99 were often botters, lol.
TL;DR it’s better to “choose” to play a multiplayer mode than “have to” play in a multiplayer environment where trade is mandatory to progress in the game at a decent pace.
This kind of games - for me - consists in four phases:
-
I start playing, I suck a lot because I don’t know game mechanics deeply, and I learn them playing / reading sites like the wiki.
-
Now that I know game mechanics, I improve my character properly and try to go farther into the endgame contents.
-
I can’t complete all the endgame, so I try to arrange new builds / characters to do it.
-
I have completed all the endgame, but I want to level up more characters because it’s fucking funny and there are hundreds of possible builds that are enjoyable to play.
I have played ALL the possible games of this “sub-genre” and for me Grim Dawn is the all-around best one. The four steps I just mentioned are so smooth, and the game is perfectly structured for a single player experience. Diablo 3 has become a full single player game too, even if the party play can be engaging it can give full satisfaction without interacting with other players. What I don’t like of D3 is the total absence of depth in both game mechanics and character builds, because I’m a sick theorycrafter and one of the favourite parts of these games is the process of creating a new build. Sadly, in a game like PoE, the grinding factor is so heavy that usually you get annoyed by a character before you can even complete its gear, lol.
On the other hand, PoE has a pretty good endgame variety, which is probably the only thing Grim Dawn has to address… and from what I know, it will in Forgotten Gods with the introduction of the Shattered Realm and Challenge Areas which will add more variety to the existing campaign, roguelike dungeons, endgame bosses and crucible mode.
GD and PoE are fantastic games, and together the best you can get actually in the hack&slay genre!
PoE is more MP and trading, ladders and events.
GD is more SP and chilled playing alone, exploring the lore and world, find cool items and so on.
I love both, and I think they are different enough to have fun for a long, long, long time playing both at the same time!
You get so much new content, and you feel how the devs love this games in every minute you play them.
So stop discussing which one ist better, the best way is play and love them both. If you like one more, it is personal opinion.
I´m so looking forward to Forgotten Gods, hope we can play it soon!
Keep up the fantastic work!
So you will be waiting a long time…a long time…
Not that long now. Any time between now and 31st March.
To people who have been chomping at the bit for FG, that is still a long, long time from now.
Relativity ftw!
I’m playing right now and just saw that the new achievements have been implemented already in steam. Can’t wait for the expansion. And the best part: I’m still 99% spoiler-free. I like to discover new content on my own first. I have no idea what “Shattered Realm” might be or if there is even a new level-cap or so. I’m just thrilled that this amazing game gets an expansion again!
Are you sure? What year ?
Thursday??
Cant wait for the expansion, jsut recently started playing the game but love it so much!!
Do you think they will make Q1 without having a release date with only 35 days left?
yes they will! They did it before with Ashes of Malmouth too;) (2nd Oct 2017 announcement , 11th Oct release )
The same will happen to Forgotten Gods
4th march announcement + Trailer
13 march release date !
It will be the same because crate is doing the same again and again^^ maybe its zantai who did that
The only difference will be the trailer + announcement . With AoM they had some problems but i think with FG everything works like it should, if not the last misadventure had been about problems and so on
Its been there tradition to announce like few days before release date. Yes they can do it, even if all Q1 days have been expired. Looking at you April 1 release date:D
Ok, I cross my fingers for your estimation
They have a release date, they just haven’t told us what it is yet.
They had no problems with AoM. Trailer was on the 18th September, then release date announced on the 2nd October. The rogue dungeon wasn’t ready for inclusion that was the only thing.
And there’s nothng to say they have to have the same intervals between revealing the trailer and release date announcement. They could be separate, same as for AoM, or could come together.
Our previous public estimates put us in Q3 of 2017, which is nearing its end. While you will have to wait a little while longer, we are pleased to announce that the expansion is absolutely coming in October 2017. It is very probable that it will be on the earlier end of the month, but we want to make sure that recent engine changes and bug fixes have enough time to cook so that you have a smooth and enjoyable experience when you dive into Ugdenbog and Malmouth itself.
media that means what :P? some minor probs:p
It means what it said. Iirc DX11 was being introduced so making sure that was all good and any recent bugs that had been fixed they wanted to be sure were fixed. Normal beta testing procedure if you ask me.
I think we will get trailer today or tomorrow, since you know - GDs birthday is good opportunity for them to show the trailer.
Could be wrong, though…
take my money
