I was looking to help out a friend and send him a copy of one of my characters I no longer play that is high level so he can play with me
He doesn’t want my entire game save as he doesn’t want to lose the characters he is working on currently.
If I just take the character name in my save files copy and paste it into his game save will it work?
Also will it delete or mess up any of my game stuff?

No, he needs the entire character file otherwise it wouldn’t have all the other info. It shouldn’t screw up his other characters though. Or yours for that matter if you just copy the folder. It should simply add that one to his list.
Are you using local saves or cloud saving?

Just copy the entire _charname folder and send it to your friend. The only problem you may have is if they already have a char of the same name, then they will have to remove that char from their save folder so it doesn’t get overwritten.
