I’m in year 24 right now and have small T2 town running. 112 citizens right and running smooth in terms of stable food and luxury goods supply. I’m sitting on 20K Gold right now and don’t know what to do with it…
I’m generating 112G per month right now (assuming full luxury goods supply) as my market is already upgraded.
My expenses right now are a healer for 20G and compost yard for 4G a month. Adding some towers (4) I have a net income of 68G per month or 816G per year.
This looks not much in the first place but I don’t loose any money from upkeep, so I’m fine on this site. Additionally I sell all the unneeded goods I produce to the traders coming every year. This skyrockets my gold stored really quick.
There is way to much gold available right now.
Some tweaking should be make gold more valueable and not that easy to gain:
Only one trader per year instead of 2. Medium and Large Parks and other decorations like statues and shrines should cost upkeep (like 1-2G for a medium park, 5G for large park etc.). Upkeep should stand realation to the amount you usually build for getting better land values in residential areas. Small parks and similar structures should stay upkeep free like they are right now.
And one question I still have in my head: Where does the gold come from the market generates??
In the later game your soldiers will want paying and that’ll take a lot. There’s also spices only available from traders that is wanted by T4 houses. You’ll probably need to purchases something from traders to fill in holes left by supply issues, lack of sand, willow ect.
I’m guessing we pay the workers, it’s perhaps a little unfinished system but this is early access. I can see that being fleshed out later.
I want to bring this back up… it pains me to say it… but I have WAY too much gold.
I am in year 141. I have around 140k gold (after accidentally paying random 15 to 20 years ago for 42k)
Its nice having the gold, but it also means I don’t have to strategize my luxuries/resources/people… I just buy what I need… and still have more gold.
I don’t remember the names of the settings, but I am on a medium random map (I think I only have one gold mine… with minimal staff and a ratio of 1 to 10 Gold to iron in 1 of my refineries), with medium difficulty settings.
Saying this as nice as possible… you should actually play the game longer than 112 citizens in year 24 before you make a post like this. You haven’t even gotten to the expensive part of paying for large armies of soldiers, towers, multiple hospitals, rat catchers, 4-6 compost yards, and needing to buy things on the market that aren’t available in your map. Not everyone plays maps with everything on them in Idyllic Valley.
heh i wish. my cities always need more. i think i have 28 of them on my current 1k city. because how poor the worker AI is. (tons of wasted time because they’ll path everywhere)
I know my city wasn’t the biggest during the creation of that post but I’m used to reading trends from day job. This is what I am expecting when playing longer and longer…
I focus on building a beatufil organic city so the gold is useful from time to time filling supply holes but still. The balance is off. And this is early acccess after all, so imrpessions of the players are important to balance the game.
If you are palying in the harder maps you have even more for trading. Arid Highlands are filled with gold and iron to sell and restock your food and supply needs…
Except he had no idea if he would be right, and not all map types are going to be like this. So no, posting suggestions based on a limited time played without knowing what it’s like further in the game is just foolish. He very well could have been completely wrong.
Removing a trade post worker is an absolutely terrible idea as the AI is already so bad you can barely get them to get things before the trader leaves as it is.
Getting between 600 to 900+ gold a month, mostly 800+… and the last two times I was supposed to get attacked it was regular raiders instead of an army… I need the army so I can get rid of gold I have to keep building vaults
150k Gold … amateurs lol Just kidding but it’s simple to kill it with gold especially if you work the trader. You will need that gold as soon as we get the T5 stuff in. I have been over 300K before but had a span of 10 years where I ended up spending 40% of that to keep my city a float. When raiders come in and destroy everything you will be happy you have that gold. I think i need to build a bigger army … yep.
But no trader brings what I’d like to buy … soap, tallow, leather, shoes, coats, spices, …
Of course I could build a barn, that would solve a good part of it, but wouldn’t be veggie anymore.
I do hope that one of the next updates allows us to request for particular products at a premium … no problem… I can pay.
Thats weird I always get soap, leather, clothes, spices and tallow also candles, pottery and hide jackets. But rarely get the stuff I want like Stone, Wood etc lol. It has to be something they put in the coding to rarely bring what your city doesn’t have a lot of and then force you to pay the over priced shipments when they DO show up
