Ok so I see TONS of builds but most of them have best in slot gear listed.
I haven’t played in like 5 updates but would like to get a character to cap and ready for the expansion.
I saw a lightning shaman build that is newbie friendly it says, but not much else. I have no idea if any of the older builds are still viable.
What I am after is probably unfair LOL, but I would love a fast moving AOE machine with moderate single target DPS for bosses/champs.
I really am not good at putting my own builds together so it would be great if there was a leveling guide to help out as well. I have zero high end gear so this toon will need to farm for itself.
Though pretty much all build guides are green/purple clad they still function well without them mostly. The skill focus/devotion setup of most builds are pretty solid and work just fine as long as they don’t require very specific legendaries (conversion items etc) to do what they’re intended to do. Find a build you think is fun and play it!
That being said my go to recommendations are poison witch hunter and saboteur. Witch hunter offers excellent aoe and single target and slowly gains awesome survivability, check out my guide If you wanna melee check out jaja’s saboteur. Both builds function well w/o gear or have easy access via factions/crafting to good gear, but become monsters once the gear is obtained. For jaja’s build jagermeister has posted some newer gear/devotion setup info later on in the thread at like page 80 or something
Many builds require to cheat with gdstash because its nearly impossible to get the gear playing self-found, since this is singleplayer rpg with no trading
If that is how you enjoy playing games. I’m self found all the way and doing pretty good. Barely 500 hours played and i already completed my DM set. Also i have few 4-item legendary sets completed. Hardest thing are those Mi’s though, i haven’t got a single good green item yet and i have farmed them quite a lot.
What ? Many people trade, look at the trade threads on those very forums . Also you can play self-found just fine, you don’t need BiS gear for most builds to work. The biggest hump is getting the first build that can reliably farm late game content.
I’ve only recently started trading and there are several builds for which I got most of the BiS items by just playing normally. You just have to accept that what you drop will determine what you can make to some extent.
This is really not true at all, as long as the build has good skill distro/devotions they will function just fine presuming the core functionality isn’t depending on a rare conversion item etc. Super sick rare items are awesome to have, but are in no way necessary for builds. I play mostly SC, but have made it through HC with a lot of builds wearing random shit I’ve found with a tiny pool of legendaries. Even if you don’t trade it’s not too hard to get at least a few relevant legendaries for your build from farming campaign/gambling mats and it’s easy enough to craft some random stonehide/incorruptible shit to cover your resists really well which isn’t even necessary but more of a luxury. The main thing you will lack is the ability to do things like put 3x 2% OA/DA augs on all your jewelry to give you that boost into truly nasty territory
Not sure if you need a cheat engine. My first Ultimate, nemesis clearing build was Self Found
Then i started trading amongst friends and forum members, it’s not very far fetched to think good gear can be found self found
JoV is an SF player (the only i know is confirmed to play SF), he even said if he accepts a piece of gear then his entire reason to play the game dies down
I started SF and on my first Ultimate clear i had dupe Transfer.gst files just to make room for items since it started raining greens and purples. Obviously i resorted to trading later on since i don’t spend much time on the game unlike most dedicated players
The day I have to cheat to play any RPG is the day I quit playing all of them. I know a lot of people do it, but for me the entire purpose of the game is to find or trade for gear and build up my character. I hate trading at times because I don’t know if it is a legit item or not so I generally don’t even ask. Finding my own gear though, that brings the ultimate satisfaction.
Most advertised builds feature end-game gear because they’re basically just selling you the end-result.
If you want to know more about working your way to that end result (and possibly adding your own variations along the way) you simply create a thread and ask. There’s a legion of experienced players here who would only be too happy to answer your questions or offer suggestions.
traded when i played SC, when I went HC I was going for self found (and playing with the amount of hours I have, you can be sure that I have all the items that are in the game)
If you fear for legitimacy, you may want to consider that solution: friends.
Regarding the topic, the most solid way to start or restart in ARPG is always the same: tanks. You focus on health and armor and resistances and all the rest will come steadily.
The feeling in this topic is a bit disturbing. It is like some people just cannot play video games without guides and cheats. We might not live in the same worlds.
The only person I knew who played Grim Dawn just had a baby and his wife hated when he was on the computer so now he will have zero time.
I would give anything to have a couple people who used a voice chat program and who played evenings PST to do exclusive playthroughs with using only gear we all found in the game.
I just don’t know anyone and I am too old to go out and make new ones LOL =)
I am sorry to hear that, but you have to keep trying.
I am happy for the family with the baby. The mother complaining about daddy spending time on the computer may make sense: at least not another kid left watching TV all day and later wandering the streets. Different priorities.
There should be forums around where you could find teammates.
Oh wait, this is a forum here, with people actually playing that game we are talking about! Just advertise your play style and play times somewhere and check the answers and repeat until you find a decent amount of people.
Grim Dawn is a complete different game in multiplayer. I have almost never played that kind of game in solo and never will.
Online community used to be nice for the most part during early access. Right now I’m not sure about its average sanity though
You might be able to find some people in your timezone through boards like this one or steam discussion. Its not an uncommon topic if you really want to, and might give you more time to find out if the person is a rude kid or sojmeone else you won’t want to spend time with
I would say a fire/ caster commando. Soldier and demo offer so much survivability and demo already has 2 built in -rr. Also the main reason is there is so much gear based on fire that you don’t have to worry about sets. That was my first type of char I finished all the game with. I had terrible gear but could still kill all nemesis and had 0 deaths.
