Grim Dawn: Act II Released!

Numerous posts by one person do not count

I just played for maybe 4 hours, had the game on for another hour while I was busy, never crashed.

I’ve also posted that mine keeps crashing, before b16 it was fine now it crashes quite a lot. Sometimes after 10mins of play other times it’s fine for hours.

First of all this is not the place to post such info.

Make a post in the proper section and give devs necessary information, your pc config, info about any programs you are running in the background and in what areas of the game it crashes most often.

Downloaded it yesterday, but didn’t get to playing it yet. 8 more hours of work till I can savor this epicness!

We don’t currently have any information on why the crash is happening. If we knew more, it would likely be fixed by now. The crash seems to only be affecting a small number of players and we haven’t been able to reproduce it, which makes it more difficult to track down and fix. Unfortunately, the less prevalent a crash is, often the more difficult it is for us to find and fix it.

Crash reports can be helpful in some cases but often we need to reproduce a crash in debug mode to generate enough information to find the exact problem.

I’m sorry people are experiencing crashes and we always pay attention to those reports and work away at them. Because the game is still in development, it is not like a post-release product where crashes tend to become fewer and fewer as they’re addressed in patches. Instead, we fix bugs but because we’re still changing and adding code, there is always a chance new builds will introduce new bugs. This is just a reality of playing a game in the midst of development. :undecided:

while the crashing is very annoying, (I have suffered from at least 1 in B17) but as the game is shifting and new content is getting added, code changes, and will keep changing when more features get added, the game isn’t really in a stable state, (not final) but its a price that has to be paid when you test a game this early, then again, I have seen final games been a hell of a lot more buggy then this, (looking at you X3 reunion and X rebirth)

GD is surprisingly more stable then a few fully fledged games, another good example is Legend of Dawn and how bad that turned out, (even though the devs said that the game was pretty nearly finished and feature complete, like heck it was)

but we are pretty lucky in this respect, if you been with the game from the start and played then, the game was a lot more unstable then, in early builds, I suffered loads of crashes and even in B14 / B15 constant crashes in Burrwitch village / estate area, I just couldn’t get to the warden’s cellar without having 4 / 6 maybe more crashes before the game finally allowed me to get to that area.

as long as people keep sending in those crash reports, it will help,

but yeah, the game is getting new code and features so stuff is always changing, so the likelihood of adding in new bugs and crashes and making the game unstable for some, will always be there, once everything is in, and no new features need to be added, things will settle down, and more bugs will get fixed. been beta betting long enough to know that. so we need to hang in there.

uhm i found a little bug? when you find Elsa, before you fight Cronley it will say the same text, as when you fight Cronley maybe this is intended? I do not know, just letting you know

If you find bugs be sure to create a thread in the Alpha Bugs section of the forums with the current build number “B17 2.3.0” found on the main menu in the title.

I had a couple of crashes a while back, probably about one a week. It was my graphics card. Once I replaced it I never had another crash.

But ye, I’d be ever so slightly frustrated myself if i couldn’t play this gem of a game…

And just as I was getting into Thief and Castlevania.

Having only invested around an hour yesterday evening, my feedback is related to the new health and energy bar UI. I actually prefer the original style of health/energy UI. I found it was less intrusive and absolutely sufficient in a minimalistic way. The new style doesn’t appear to add any value other than stealing more screen real estate (playing on a 27 inch monitor).

Cosmetics…gotta love 'em.

Thank you for this reminder, Medierra. I can also confirm that I played approximately three hours tonight without a crash. I have no idea what could be leading to these sparce crashes but I will continue to send crash reports hoping they provide some insight for you and your team.

Woot! I can’t wait to fire up a new character this weekend and get back into this.

I havent had a single crash yet

Hah, well, I’m sorry you’re not a fan of the new UI but part of the value it adds is that it actually takes up less space. :stuck_out_tongue:

The old HUD protruded further onto the screen and contained a lot of wasted space. The new HUD is more streamlined and overall shorter. It may feel larger because of the thicker health and energy bars but we were able to do that because they’re no longer stacked and use the space more efficiently.

the game crashes very rarely on me, usually only when i leave the game minimized for a looooooooooooong time does it happen.

No more zombie in the names of those Aetherials.

i’m sure they read the rock paper shotgun article criticizing some of the mob names, the spiders and mosquitoes now have slightly more original names as well

Indeed…more intrusive from my perspective…too much red and green going on there. It was cosmetic feedback, and there are bigger fish to fry.

Thanks guys, very happy with A2 so far, and the visual improvements look nice too, nice job!

The game crashed for me as well after about an hour… I minimized the game and once I opened it up and unpaused, that’s when it crashed.

Ohh man thank you Crate! I have been watching the stream video over and over in anticipation of Act 2

Part of me still can’t believe that you guys, who created my all time favourite ARPG game Titan Quest, are creating Grim Dawn - continuing the legacy of TQ and taking it to far greater, epic-er heights!

Well done so far and thanks again Arthur and the Crate Team
