Grim Dawn Version 1.0.7.0

Yeah, aside from discord cadence (and Inquisitor seal) Nerf, I am liking most of the changes here. Especially the new abundance of conversion in the previously no-one-use item. Also, mad Queen’s claw looks very beastly now!!

Yeah, overall the patch is brilliant and I like the most changes it introduces. But the changes to Discord are a bit weird. I suppose that’s because Discord builds weren’t enough strong and most of the people just didn’t run them and thus didn’t discuss. Now when the developers want to do something with Discord, they don’t know what to do with this.

I think, it would be good to see some weapons or other gear with support of Elemental Cadence. I would like to see strong S&B Fire Discord Commando or DW Cold Discord Blademaster. They used to be some sort of fun builds, but with Lightning Discord they are completely unviable.

Overall, the main road of GD evolution goes through increasing build variety, and I do like this. You see, most of the changes in the current patch widen build variety, but the change to Discord narrows it.

wow reap spirit now 3 summon limit by default, and patchnotes don’t mention it)

Man, I thought the ultimate from level 1 would be in this update, guess I’ll have to wait for FG

This has already been said several times in this thread, it’s a FG feature. The merit tokens are only sold by vendors in FG so of course it’s not available yet. It was also made clear in the dev stream of the 7th December.

“So the reason I’m opening up this guy today, notice he’s on normal difficulty, nothing substantial, he’s level 2, got a mastery to select, there’s Oathkeeper, got 3 skill points, I’ve already spent his attribute points, but oh look. In my inventory are two new items we’re going to be introducing with the Forgotten Gods expansion. What are these items you might ask? They are Merits, similar to the Crucible, you now get to use these items in the main campaign. What they do is allow you to unlock higher difficulties on your new characters. So I’ve got a Champion’s Merit that unlocks Elite and I’ve got the Saviour’s Merit that unlocks Ultimate. And that means you immediately get access to new difficulties, you immediately get all of the attribute and skill point rewards that any quest on lower difficulties would have given you which means you don’t have to go back to Normal, you don’t have to go back to Elite, if you want to start on Ultimate you will immediately get those points. You will immediately get all of the inventory bags which you would have unlocked and you immediately get all of the riftgates on the lower difficulties. Boom! 4 more attribute points, 7 skill points. Just like that. Now if I go to the main menu and click this little thing here, oh look I’m level 2 going into Ultimate difficulty!”

I love the patch and the nerfs to inquistor skills are well deserved . Also I will not complain if further nerfs are done to render a bit lower in ranks this mastery. This will ensure the power it gets when paired with the oathkeeper is mitigated.

That makes no sense. The patches are made for balance purposes and QoL changes. If anything it should make you happy they do that. There are so many options that it’s almost impossible to break a character for you, and you can run around with only rares and still be fine.

Your objective is bit to obvious, no?

But honestly the defensive skills of the Inquisitor mastery should not be further nerfed as it currently functions as a band aid to the somewhat broken balance of defense vs damage(defense vs physical damage in particular). Nerfing them further would severely hurt builds as PRM Mage hunters and Fire strike purifiers. Unless you want make using the Justice set mandatory on purifiers or force PRM builds to play Spellbinder for CDR MoE + MoT.

A job well done, Crate. Thanks for ruining my two builds in this patch: freeze trickster on malkadarr blades by nerfing night’s embrace amulet and pierce retaliation blademaster by revising all pierce retal bonuses to physical retal ones.

Also, thanks for mirror of ereoctes and mark of torment with nature guardians(Ishtak devotion), i understood that glass cannons is foreign word in this game.

At last i want to ask one question: what’s next mechanic for slain? Petrification? Fumble? Traps? Because Life Leech, Manaburn and now Freeze chance already killed.

Good timing, just came back to start GD freash a couple days ago.

Actually this is something I too would like to clarify. What was the reasoning to further reduce ways to freeze mobs? Personally I find it a very satisfying mechanic even if in GD it already works on only a limited number of enemies.

welcome Back Zars. Maybe you will post a build again:p

I also dislike the discord change.

I second this. Discord needs to go back. We dont need any more lightning. Fire Cadence and Cold Cadence would have been better. In the end better stick to Elemental!

I agree with Zantai that the dps remains intact (unless you were only equiping items with fire and ice bonuses), but I think that the problem with the Discord’s change is that people like the concept of tri-elemental attacks, even if they aren’t as powerful as focusing in one type of damage. In the end of the day it’s a change that doesn’t add anything, it just pisses of people that liked having tri-elemental cadence. I’m loving this patch (I started a NB only to try the reworked Blade Spirit) but maybe this one change should be reverted.

This is one of those cases where us playtesters suggested changing it because it wasn’t working as intended (even with Discord you’d focus one of the three damage types, not all three) and because net-net elemental dmg is pretty bad, but apparently the public loves it anyway. Will brainstorm how to make Discord cadence work specifically for elemental cadence.

First, it’s obvious the patch/coming expansion require a lot of work, time and dedication to player satisfaction and over-all quality, so thanks to Crate for the way they support this game. There are many things (like the search option for devotions in-game) that are great improvements, and I can’t wait for the expansion.

Of course, I have one gripe about my own personal character. ;_)

I understand that balancing the game is important, but I don’t understand the logic of changing the skill bonuses on the Octavius set from Word of Renewal–useful to any Inquisitor build I would think–to Rune of Kalastor. Can anyone explain what the point of that was? My level 100 character has now become a work in progress to find new gear or some sort of rebuild, instead of a solid farmer whose skills were enhanced by her gear.

The problem with Elemental Cadence is obvious: it lacks gear support, and GD is such a game, where gear defines everything. So just leave Discord elemental as it was and add some dedicated equipment.

Elemental Discord means build diversity: you can build it around one of the three elements, make it duo- or tri-element. That depends on your gear and class choice. But frankily saying, gear choices are quite poor atm.

I disagree. With old discord you’re stuck with dual or tri-element, never a single one. It’s easy to get 70+ conversion to a single element with 2h or 50+ with dw. Old discord is 33% to a single element which overrides all other conversions since it’s a transmuter. Also elemental cadence was already done by veretragna and that didn’t include discord (iirc he said it’s better without discord, idk why).

In regards of Cadence, I’m actually happy with this change, even though I’d love if that transmuter converted Physical for Pierce damage or other damage instead of Lightning.

In fact, I think flat elemental damage and (not the separate damage types) is a CANCER that needs to go, because it just makes it more annoying to build your character properly, since the damage is too spread apart, and it also makes your character lose a bit of their identity, like if you try to do a pure fire mage, but it ends up getting cold and lightning damage as well, due to the flat elemental damage.
