Grim Misadventure #160: All Set Here

Crate: A small team with a hand full of people.
THQ Nordic: A huge group of people and about 20 - 50 times more money than Crate.

Yeah, GD can be milked for another expansion…

Because as Medierra pointed out many years ago:

"A big factor for working on something else though is that I don’t think it is good to keep all our eggs in one basket, as a studio. Our primary goal is to keep the company alive so we can keep being independent and making games. While it’s certainly possible to focus on one franchise and stay alive for a long time doing it, it’s riskier having all your future dependent on the continued success of one game property in one genre. Diversifying the types of games we can make and the IPs we own is a good way for us to better secure out future.

Beyond just branching out to work on other genres, it has always been a goal of mine to be able to work on concurrent projects. Not only do we not want to be pigeon-holed into one genre but I think it’s important for us to be able to work on multiple projects at time. That way, we’re not just counting on the success of a single big release to keep us alive, where if it under-performs, it could take years to course-correct and finish another project (years we likely wouldn’t have). This also helps to increase the efficiency of the studio, as we can shift people around based on the needs of a project at any give time, instead of having lulls at the beginning and end of a single project, where not everyone is needed at full capacity. Another factor is that people get burnt out working on one thing for too many years. When people get burnt out, they leave and look for something new. I feel like we have a great team and I want to keep them engaged with fresh new projects and not solely grinding away on ARPGs for the next 20 years."

I don’t think that has anything to do with it. As Zantai has said before it’s a question of whether it makes financial sense to do another expansion. Also what they would base it on if they did? I’m sure there are more stories they could make into another side story expansion like FG, but if you want to know more about the main storyline a sequel is where it really needs to happen. Also, if you want more QoL features then a GD2 where they can be built in from the beginning would make more sense.

Just one more expansion and thats it. Grim Dawn 1 will be complete;)

Why 3rd expac is needed?

1.10 is better than 9. 10th mastery will complete the list.
2. Story ending is bad, we need to punch Dreeg in the face for shouting out balance when its ridiculously imposssible to happen in gd. this ending will give a proper closure to the game and will open up as precursor to Gd2: “Dreeg’s Revenge”!
3. no ice theme to balance the hot climate of the Korvan basin, feels hot:undecided:
4. it is easier and faster to do and release than gd2. GD2 will take 5 years at least to complete and who knows god knows ww3 armageddon will have come by then. We cant enjoy a game when we dead:eek:
5. there is an overwhelming support for gd1 expansion, momentum is high, strike while the iron is hot.

my 2 cents

Probably will get released before we get Wolcen and Star Citizen

This is actually a bad thing, they should have made Titan Quest 2 instead of wasting resources on two expansions. Titan Quest at this point feels rather dated, the combat lacks a dynamic feel, feels clunky and stiff. No amount of expansions can fix it.

A whole new game in a new engine could have much better gameplay. The same could be done with Grim Dawn 2, have much better gameplay compared to what we have now. So more expansions is just a waste at this point.

That’s not a particularly high bar to clear is it?

Onward to the Erulan Capitol. i wonder what god we get to kill next

I don’t think it’s a bad thing or a waste at all, not in a business sense at least. With reviving the old game and giving it expansions they have brought back old fans and introduced new ones to the old game, and it being clunky and outdated means that anyone who enjoyed that will be literally lining up at the door for TQ2 when it finally hits. I still enjoy it even though it is outdated, the nostalgia is real for me and many people, but it has me eagerly hoping for a TQ2 soon that is newer and more polished/less clunky, their expansions have been really good too meaning I’m full of trust for the next TQ as well. Great business plan tbh, though they knew people wanted the bait so it was a easy hook lol. Now they can move on to bigger game with all us fish waiting for the next tasty bait :stuck_out_tongue:

With GD though, if it’s an expac or a new game, they’ll have my support  Personally hoping for a new expac though so I don’t have to level 20 new characters in the new game, because I will if I absolutely have to… (unless a porting over of old characters is possible, though that is a lot of effort on their end lol). Even if an expac takes a couple years, I’d be ok with that too lol take the time and make it huge if that’s what you need to do for the story.

In the end though I just wanna see more of the storyline regardless of how I get it, if this was a book I would’ve read it so many times the pages would be falling out haha.

Damn Void Soul looks amazing <3
