Have Guns, Will Travel (cold Paladin scheming)

No GrimTools chart up, not yet anyway. I want to first get an idea of what additional skills I’ll want in addition to what I’m about to mention.

In one of the streams, Crate noted that there would be an item that would turn Vire’s Might’s fire damage to cold. So of course I considered that in tandem with Rune of Hagarrad and Chilling Rounds. The basic stratagem I have in mind:

  1. Plant Rune in front of self.
  2. Pelt goons with bullets (Have Guns…) while they approach you (and the Rune).
  3. Once they get close enough, have detonated the Rune, and there’s any still left, Vire’s Might through them (…Will Travel) to put more space between you and them, then plant another Rune.

Granted I put Guns in plural, but I am wondering if Volcanic Might with one gun and a shield would work better, as it turns all the physical damage into fire, and from there to cold that can be amplified with our equipment.

Anyone’s thoughts on this basic stratagem?

You will have a lot more to look forward to when items are released in GT

Have one more movement skill on the medal slot, will travel some more. Shoot mobs in the back of their heads. Plant more rune :smiley:

Things have gotten odd with the idea since the GrimTools update. Turns out that the item that turns Vire’s Might’s damage to cold is actually a Conduit of Divine Whispers, rather than any fixed-value Rare/Epic/Legendary.

What this means is that anything else that upgrades VM’s damage by itself probably isn’t going to be in the running, since it will certainly try to amplify fire damage (and the relevant Conduit prefix changes the physical to cold).

So for starters, Volcanic Might is no longer in the running, since it’s not fire damage that we can convert.

We’ll need to instead rely on boosting cold damage by itself, along with things that specifically boost Rune of Hagarrad/Biting Cold/Chillsurge/Chilling Rounds.

(Assuming I don’t flip to Archon first…)

Alkamos` warsword converts 100 phys to to cold, adds flat cold, and gives pneumatic burst 70% fire to cold modifier :wink:

…Paladin, not Infiltrator or Dervish. Not to mention, I’m expressly using a ranged weapon strategy.

Before I found the Belt, I was worried about the gauntlets–Iceskorn for the additional frostburn on Righteous Fervor, or Hagarrad for the boost to Biting Cold? But Nightfire turning a measure of all fire to cold undid that concern.
