With all the lurking and playing i’ve been doing for the past three or four months and finnaly joining the forum a couple of weeks ago I’ve actually forgotten to indroduce myself.
First of all I absolutely love this game and have been playing it since late march. Long time avid Titan Quest player here, I’ve been on TQ forum as well, also Diablo 2, Torchlight 2 and some Dungeon Siege 2.
Got the Game on GOG. I cannot support the people who have made this game enough. Looking forward to contribute on the forum with anything I can. Fenomenal job!
Thanks all for the welcome and sry for the late reply. What can I say about Diablo 3…I started playing it with high enthusiasm a bit over a year ago. I didn’t listen to the naysayers although I understood where they were coming from before playing it.
After having played it myself it fell flat for me after just a few months. Didn’t get far with the rifting, i pretty much ignored the main campaign afterwards (as most players do) since it’s just so soooo weak and simplistic, none of the mystery and gravitas dare I say of the first two. I tried , I really tried to get into it. I’ve played Diablo 2 for so many years, i’m a melee guy at heart so Barbarian and shape shifting Druid were my favorites so as you can imagine in D3 I went straight Barb and finally I couldn’t believe that I just didn’t want to play the game. That’s about it. Perhaps one day I will try again and see how I feel about it but with The Crucible coming and then the expansion to Grim Dawn, I doubt it will be soon.
Dungeon siege is Party based and the second one has very nice atmophere and is actually a very good game with interesting skills and mechanics. I even feel that TL2 and Diablo 3 were inspired by the power skills in DS2 and took it a step further to make them spammable so that the player feels like a god. There was even an interview about this approach in the early days of D3 (DS2 wasn’t mentioned there ofc). Unfortunately not a lot of people have played it, it jut didn’t take off and faded into obscurity.
@Martimus: You are so sexy and beautiful you deserve so much more than 50$!!!
But Torchlight II is slightly better imo cause of a better storyline and modding and no DRM.
Anyways, how is Dungeon Siege’s storyline? I am planning to try something else soon. My options- Planescape Torment, Divinity Series, Dungeon Siege, Sacred. Currently leaning towards Divinity series.
I’ve played lots of TL2 and what I can tell you is that the gameplay is definitely better smoother and higher paced than DS2. Modding yes. I am a purist normally but I did play Synergies mod which is awesome and Tartarus mod for the infinite dungeon up to lvl 200 + mobs.
DS2 in this regard is a bit more strategic. You have to think about how to make up your party (up to 5 members by last difficulty, including pets you hire). Whatever combo you like…melee tank that draws aggro + mage+2x archers +pet with buffs for example. Also DS 2 attepted dual classes with the expansion. You could naturally mix ranger with blood asassin or fighter with stonefist or if you wanted any other classes but it’s tricky
TL2 story is not very strong. It’s nice, it’s there. Those Nether creatures are a bit like the Aetherials here aren’t they? But not so fleshed out and with lore.
DS2 story is very good I think, better than TL2. It’s darker more D2 style, keeps you curious along four very different acts where you learn a lot of stuff and you also have a lot of secrets and some pretty intricate side quests should you chose to follow them. Very similar to The Hidden Path where you take clues from different acts and search around in large areas and hidden dungeons and they have good rewards, items recipies (game has crafting).
Ah I misunderstood. Compared to D3 i’d say that the Torchlight stuff, little as it is, it’s at least fun and a bit quirky. D3 is just…i don’t really even know how to describe it. It’s bland, simple, with a couple of fancy Blizzard level custscenes. Voice acting is terrible in game. Remember your first encounter with Mephisto or Diablo in D2, how powerful they were back then? Well here it’s bad cringe worthy dialogue and very poorly delivered.
I could justify this by saying that it might be a clash of generations but in truth Blizzard look to lure in the 12 old kids with D3 while in D2 the Blizzard that made TL2 looked to lure in gamers in general. They weren’t thinking in those terms.
About DS2 I get what you say. As much as I liked DS2 I aslo normally prefer to have my game concetrated in one hero that wrecks stuff. It’s part of the reason i transitioned to TQ and TL2 after it:)
