Help: building a Soldier Gunslinger - gun kata

So, i want to build a gunslinger, focused on dealing physical damage with cadence, fighting form and deadly momentum - stacking attack speed and becoming a bullet hose secondly.

I am inspired in particular by the two pistols “Deathdealer’s Sidearm” and “Havoc”. Especially havoc with the extreme attack speed procc.

I want to create a gunslinger, not a meteor/flames/lightning mage that happens to use guns. That does not mean i am not open to dipping into other damage types, but i do not want to create another brimstone pyromancer/mad sorcerer/shaman with a rifle (though i mean no disrespect to the builds, they are mighty cool!).

… That also means that i will face problems doing aoe damage. Can you suggest how to remedy that through other means than meteors falling from the sky and extremely “magy” stuff. I do not mind a bit of colour if i must.

because of that, I have looked into the Sharpshooter build, but i think that i need to look into some proccs - to not be completely tedious when facing packs.

I will link the builds when the forums allow me to, after i have reached 3 posts.

For additional info (coming later.)

I think it’s been confirmed that the first expansion will have a dedicated ranged weapon mastery, so this might be more viable once that arrives. As for what you can do with what’s currently available…demo does have stuff other than fire strike which might be useful without feeling too mage-like. Supplementing your gun-play by throwing out flash-bangs and canister bombs seems fairly on-theme. You could also max temper for the physical boosts while leaving flame touched to one point. I’m not actually sure how effective all this would be, but those are the first things that come to mind.

Note that attack speed is capped at 200% and you’ll likely reach that by the time you’re dual-wielding legendaries anyway, so Havoc’s proc might not be that benefical. I’d dual-wield Deathdealers instead, if I had 'em.

Piercing shots from Cadence will help you a lot with AOE… often you’ll find the enemy lining up for you nicely through doorways and such. There’s a neat art to doing ranged cadence and lining up the perfect piercing shots

I’d delve into Demolitionist and pick up Flashbang, Canister Bomb and Blast Shield. It will benefit you in crowd control, offense and defence, as well as being more military-style than mage.

That is exciting twem. More ranged build variation!

Good point regarding attack speed!

I thought about picking arcanist as the second class, for mirror+iskandra+flashfreeze and arcane will. Arcane will+fighting spirit would create some seriously high bonuses too, i imagine.

Arcanist also means that i can stack some higher dmg with the conversion, and possibly go just a little bit flashy on the proccs. I do not know which items would help me in that case.

But demolitionist looks really nice for keeping it physical. the debuffs and grenado will shake up the clicking nicely and make for more varied play.

decisions, decisions.

I planned pretty much exactly the same build. I actually opted for Occultist for the attack speed buff (Solael’s Witchfire), Blood of Dreeg for regen and OA, and Curse for the really nice physical damage debuff. As for AOE, the piercing from Cadence is nice, and Falcon Devotion is awesome too (bound to Cadence). I’m currently level 35 in the Rotting Croplands, and it’s quite fun although Cadence feels a little inconsistent with its procs with my DW pistols. Currently using 2x Devil Crossing Respected pistols.

Other pistols that are great if you don’t have those legendaries will be Empowered 3rd Company Revolver (+1 to all skills in soldier), or Empowered Slugger - HUGE reduction to enemy damage and +3 to Deadly Momentum. I personally haven’t used either but they seem cool.

Do the dual/multishot procs count as 2-3 attacks or a single attack when using cadence?

Nevermind the attack speed bonus… Havoc just dropped for me and its proc also gives +15% offensive ability for a second, on a 4 second cooldown. THAT’S the appeal of that weapon, that’s huge.

That is huge Adrius. Damn. And with havocs bonus’s to deadly momentum and cadence, i think the build does have some real potential!

I am thinking of building around proccs too. If i tie assassins mark to cadence, and then other proccs to markovians advantage and zolhans technique, this means that their proccs will carry that debuff too - specifically “Blades of Wrath” from Assassin, and “Falcon Swoop” from Falcon.

I think that solves any lategame aoe problems - the build will be proccing those like crazy with the pierce… But that also means investing many points into those devotions.

This is what i am going for if i am going Battlemage
http://grimcalc.com/build/XkATNM
Focusing on elemental damage
Stacks fighting spirit + arcane will
mirror, maiven, flash for defense

This is if i am going Commando (no pun intended)
http://grimcalc.com/build/LDxkQ8
Grenado to break up the rotation
temper + oleron for insane damage
But i get the feeling i am spending my points wrongly in this build…

Anyone got some feedback on both builds?
