The main idea is to make a build as simple as possible. One active skill to full DPS and one to summon the Pet. Click and Win.
Initially I was thinking of using a 2H weapon to shoot and move, but maybe dual wielding would suit better this build as I think it has several increases in flat damage. (I still haven’t been able to equip two 1H guns, why?)
I’m not sure about the Attribute points distribution so I placed 20/50/20. Also, I have no idea where to go with Devotion points, it overwhelmed me hehe. On a final note, I think it’s too squishy for HC, what am I missing?
Does this build make sense? Appreciate any suggestions.
Hehe, I came to GD with fond memories of my TQ Avenger and Ranger, thinking I’d do something similar once again. Sadly, pets in GD are only an option if you go all-in so now my Pyromancer has to run alone. She kills fast, but she’s kinda boring to play.
I hate to break your bubble, my friend, but if you think that pets in GD operate like in World of Warcraft you are in for a big surprise. Even with 12/12 Ember Claw (which is a very bad investment btw), the Hellhound will tank shit for you. I am not even going to mention the fact that he will always drag behind you because he is slow as a snail. The only way around this problem is to stack +%Total Speed for your pets and doing that means you go 50/50 in the Occultist mastery.
ATM there is only one way to make a viable pet hybrid build (conjurer or pyro) and that is using the Primal Instinct relic (OBS: hybrid pet tricksters with the Winter King items are not exactly viable). The 6 swarmlings you get will crit for 6-7k and since you have 6 of them, they wil actually do more damage than you do. There are some problems, however:
Primal Instinct is a lvl 70 relic. You may not get one even after 500 hours in the game;
All pets will get demolished by the Nemeses. Even Fabius - the nemesis with the weakest AoE attack - will destroy your pets because they have no resistances. And if you want to get them resistances, you will lose some yourself. This is a lose-lose situation right here.
=> I can’t encourage you to try a hybrid pet build unless you have the recipies for the relics you will need AND you have at least 1k hours in this game. I hope this helps, man.
Try this http://grimcalc.com/build/oMmKY85 -devotions included (abomination is there for offensive ability HP points and some damage increase to the chaos part of Brimstione) - if you wish to go commando. I have played this class three times. It was my first character and I wanted the same things you did and got over it by ultimate.
Reasoning on the changes I made to your build:
Fighting spirit is only worth one point. + to all skills will be geared towards the demolitionist class. Keep in mind that the 16 second cooldown it has will only start AFTER the 8 seconds of it being active have passed. So you wait a full 16 seconds until it activates again for a huge skill investment.
I am guessing that since you didn’t take the “Searing Strike” (take this if you go two handed) transmuter in the fire strike line you will make a dual gunslinger. Explosive strike is more for physical builds. It’s worth a few points but not 12 so i took a few out. You can take more out if you wish thermite mine for example for more debuff. If you want to dual wield guns then craft a gunslinger talisman at the blacksmith. There are also items that give you the ability to go dual guns like Gunslingers’s Jacket. The empowered version is pretty much the best end game
Took Blitz out. That would work with shield only or two handed melee. (Don’t do shield and gun, you will do too little damage)
Went full mastery on soldier. More life and more stats. You will need this. Oleron’s skill will boost your Offensive ability greatly easpecially with Filed commmand and Flame Touched. You need this! the skills you see at 11 points instead of 12 will be increased by +1 to all skills. There are three amulets that can do this for you. Peerless eye of Beronath would be best for huge offensive ability. What I’ve left at 1 point, i did that because that is what they are worth for your build. Scars of battle will increase your armor absorption a bit. Leave it at that and increase absorption further with Scaled Hide component.
5.Blackwater Cocktail with transmuter bassically replaces warcry with just two points. Use it against bosses.
FLASHBANG use it. It’s amazing. It confuses enemies, lowers defenses and most importantly Fumble works on bosses. So they will have a 40% chance to miss. That is a huuuge deal!
7.Blast shield is fine at 10 points. You will have lots of + skills end game from Ulzuin’s items, Belt, Relic etc.
Temper is worth 1 point with + skills. More armor.
Lol I messed up the Calc. I was in a rush at work sorry here it is again http://grimcalc.com/build/gCXdPiK. And you are right about charriot. This is how i would play dual guns. You can put one skill point or more in agonizing flames for reduced resist.
Devotion and skills: Falcon swoop on Fire strike and Solael’s malice on Cocktail with Meteor shower on flashbang. Abomination on : Shadowflame Mantle proc IF two handed-more on this item below- (not sure if it works…if not) Mask of infernal Truth Ability for both builds. Just cast on trash and let them burn.
To answer the questions:
Yes Brimstone is great for leveling. Max that before anything (having a couple of points in Blast shield and Flashbang to make progression smoother)
If you like dual guns then you will need Exterminus and Deviltongue. If you don’t have Exterminus then Empowered Oath Braker is a good replacement ti’ll you get that. These can even drop in Elite difficulty. The only disadvandage to dual guns is that you need equippment to allow you to do dual guns. the chest armor I recommended is the best because it lets you wear Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm Relic, ulzuins Belt, or better medal than Pyroclasm Mark shuch as Blood sigil of Chton because you can get brimstone to level 21-22 with it.
On to two handed. You will need Hellborne rifle. it’s just the best. the main advantage to using the rifle is this : Shadowflame Mantle. These Legendary shoulders are good for either dual guns or two handed because of +3 to Brimstone BUT, it has a proc dedicated to two handed that gives a change to do theree shots in one go and some extra fire and chaos damage added. Pretty amazing.
This item brings both dual guns and two handed on even ground kind of. You decide what you like most. For two handed you will need to switch devotions because you need Kraken: http://grimcalc.com/build/bAutOiR We lose some attack damage converted to health from revenant. If you don’t think that is ok then you can lose falcon swoop and rearrange devotion points to get the %6 damage converted to health from Revenant back. (Keep in mind it doesn’t help much against bosses). You can also put Abomination devo on Shadowflame Mantle proc. If not, you can put it on Mask of Infernal Truth skill and let trash burn, for both types of builds.
Stats. You are doing most of your damage from Fire lighting and Chaos so NO cunning. There are two ways you can do this. 10 Spirit for amulet and rings and all Physique (This will let you wear Empowered Legplates of Valor which you will need in ultimate and will also give you plenty of life and devensive ability. If you are doing Hardcore then DO THIS. If you are not doing Hardcore then go 2:1 physique:spirit.
Warcry. Sounds to good to be true right? Well it is, only works on trash which evaporates from you Brimstone anyway. The dama debuff we have with just two skillpoints from Cocktail with transputer. Learn to use that it’s very good.
Fixed it. No room for it
5.???
I messed up the calc. Soldier needs 50 mastery for tons of life stats and Oleron’s rage.
http://grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33268 -commando (no need to go hybrid melee/ranged like him if you don’t want. You can play like the pyromancer above which pretty much sums up all the advice i’ve written
Superfluff you are my hero! Truly appreciate all your help and time dedicated to me! I’ll process all this information and start leveling this char!
I played Diablo 3 at release. I’ve been playing Path of Exile for 3,5 years now. And so far I’ve liked what I’ve seen of Grim Dawn. It’s different in a positive way. I like the complexity. I hope the few bucks spent help develop this game further
