I am new to GD and this is my first character. I decided to try a electric warder build and for now he is at lvl 45 with a 2h axe. My skill set up is as follows: http://grimcalc.com/build/1007-LRHVXt
however, i do have trouble with packs of mobs so my clear time is pretty slow. I am missing aoe damage, but I am not sure where I can find it. I am not using the components very much (might be the problem).
Can I get some help in either re-working my skills to allow for better clear (suggestions for components would be great) or should I try a build like this instead for better aoe and faster clears: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35167
Components have nothing to do with this, your levelling strategy is just bad. If you want a decent AOE try either Blade Arc or Primal Strike with Thunderous Strike. That’s all I can say for now.
You could also try to find some AOE in the devotions trees if possible…
Tsunami and Tempest are pretty nice for lighting based builds… Physical , while somewhat nerfed now, Falcon is still decent enough now too.
if you’re using a 2 hander, try to land the Arbiter Transcendent Relic, it has an ability called “Gavel of Justice” which gives a nice AOE punch. Transcendent relics start droping in Elite onward I believe.
If that’s not possible, than yea Primal Strike or Blade Arc are good temp fixes for now. Also I notice you put puts into the AOE chance of solider tree, but I kind of enjoy Feral Hunger on the shaman tree more, (for the life you get back with it too)…
I am assuming that warders are still viable as you have not discouraged me from taking this toon further. I just keep seeind DEE WH being recommended for first time players all the time.
also, which areas are used to farm gear or should i just keep playing the campaign on elite and not worry about farming just yet?
you should try to get to ultimate first and then worry about farming. BUT, i always love a little farming while i’m leveling since i can find a piece of gear that makes me a whole lot stronger to ease the journey ahead.
so some farming methods are cronley runs, twin falls runs(you go left from the waypoint, all the way to the wasps, kill all elites, and clear the hive with the boss in there, reset), or even rotting croplands runs in the hive as well for some gollus runs since he has that great ring which can be a game breaker if you manage to get a good roll.
my personal preference is twin falls because of the huge density of mobs there, a lot of heroes on the way, 1 boss, plus its short and it gives a decent amount of exp. thats where i farmed like 60% of my legendaries. it does get boring after a while though. on ultimate its even better since it seems you can find more heroes than in elite, or at least thats how it felt for me anyway.
on a sidenote, i found broken hills to be a good spot for farming as well but its not consistent like twin falls. i had runs with 9 heroes and runs with 1. just go left and down up until solael, and kill him as well if you can(another great Monster Infrequent from him which boosts hard to find resists).
about your build, it looks solid but there is a lot of room for adjustment. remove markovians technique and zolhans advantage, lower menhirs will to about 6 or even 0 if you dont have problems surviving. lower military conditioning and field command again if you feel comfortable surviving. leave mogdrogen’s pact at 1 point.
then get some points in heart of the wild(4-6) because its the best health boosting skill in the game, max wendigo totem to get insane heals. put remaining points in storm surge and brute force. and get some attack damage converted to health if you dont already have and you should be fine even if you remove all points from conditioning and field command.
just play around with skill points but i do recommend at least 3 points in heart of the wild, max wendigo and max storm surge. brute force is more damage but its your call if you want your defensive passives or this offensive one. find a place where you are comfortable with your defenses and boost it accordingly. still i wouldnt recommend getting it to max yet, just a few points for starters since its a good boost even with a few points.
phew too long posts…
TL;DR http://grimcalc.com/build/1007-T2JhrN something like this for now, and for the next levels boost field command-military conditioning-heart of the wild.
DEE WH is recommended because it’s a very straightforward build, while a Warder has a multitude of options, which causes new players to become lost. It doesn’t help that most guides present a Savagery Warder, and it’s easy to assume that Savagery is the way to go, while in reality people level up Warders with Primal Strike, respeccing into Savagery very late into the game. Primal Strike itself has a number of issues, e.g. it requires a certain degree of mana-management, also it’s nearly useless against some monsters. It also doesn’t help that you need Kraken as soon as possible, and an experienced player will probably go into Crucible first to get extra devotion points, hence receiving kraken much earlier than one would by just progressing through a campaign. Having a stash of low-level items for levelling and components as well as knowledge of some tricks just make levelling a much more pleasant experience
In case you don’t know, Markovian’s Advantage and Zolhan’s Technique do not work with Primal Strike. Also people usually don’t max Menhir’s Will, these points are better invested into Heart of the Wild. Also I don’t typically max Field Command, just put 1 point and rush for Squad Tactics, which is a better investment imo.
I would like to ask you, warders completely suck nowadays however you build them? i’m currently leveling elementalist savagery, and i would like to know more about warder. Ultos PS, savagery, Bloodrager savagery all suck? cause i’m thinking about leveling one, should i just skip it and go for something else instead?
