Been reading the forums on and off so decided to register and throw in my thoughts from time to time. It is nice to see a community driven game instead of what passes these days for games.
My history as gamer is extensive. Not really going into detail. Seeing the average age of gamers here I’m sure not to be alone in that regard. The history began with the old arcades, pen and paper RPG’s, pc gaming. Got addicted to the very first few MMORPG’s. Some minor console gaming into the present before going back to the trusted PC.
Currently I play various games. Spend a bucket load with the last Steam Summer Sale to keep me busy. Got the enhanced version of The Witcher 2 currently going. Batman Arkham City. Borderlands and Torchlight on the side with a touch of Divine Divinity on the side if I want a change. Waiting with high hopes for Baldur’s Gate enhanced version which should be released soon.
Welcome to the forums Gibly! I too am enjoying Witcher 2 enhanced edition and Borderlands, and I wonder if, during your extensive gaming history, you played Titan Quest? Its engine is what GD is being built upon, but with enhanced graphics.
Anyway, enjoy your stay!

I have played Titan Quest during the earlier patches. Haven’t bought or tried the expansion. After reading up on older posts that exist on this forum, and me running out of the backlog games, it might be time to re-install TQ and get the expansion as well.
Definitely drop your ideas frequently, not just from time-to-time!! Any idea, if put in a clear, concise, and logical voice can be discussed and expanded upon and MAYBE give the designers and idea or two!!
Welcome to the forums!! Definitely reinstall TQ, get the xpac, and enjoy old goodness!
hello and welcome to the forums. your decision there is your reward for joining us here. TQ with expansion is not the same. it keeps getting better and better.
Be sure to check out the Game Info and Features section, our “Minister of Information” eisprinzessin has assembled a list of all the developer comments on random tidbits, with links to the original dev posts. Very helpful.
Again, welcome to the forums,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have been reading through all the developer topics and such working my way down. Finished it up earlier today and been going through your suggestion. There have been topics worth sharing ideas on. However that would mean digging up the old topics.
For now I just hope that there will be a short race/class to choose from. Somehow I’ve always enjoyed playing dwarves, gnomes and other short folk.
Hmm, not sure if there will be race at all in GD, only humans and the “Others” (the two invading otherwordly powers, one side resembling demons and the others resembling wraiths). And of course, the Others aren’t playable. Only humans are I think… :undecided:
After playing TQ:IT all weekend I remembered why it was no longer installed. TQVault is what broke the game for me. It isn’t easy to stay in control of myself with such a cheaters tool.
Google and you’ll quickly find a zip file containing all epics and legendaries the game has to offer. Even without downloading such a file you will get a few items and in TQVault you can then complete the entire set from that single item. Being overpowered and such is cool…for a little bit. Completed the game on Normal with a Thane build and can not push myself to play further. Hopefully Grim Dawn will not have such tools available. I do like the Vault for allowing you to stash all items, but that is all. No completing relics, no completing entire sets, nothing other then simply storing what you find.
Another aspect is how the skills are used. You literally need to stop everything for a few seconds. If you keep attacking your skills won’t occur. Hopefully in GD pressing a skill button will mean everything you’re doing is overwritten so that the skill actually occurs.
While clearing maps I remember something that was posted. A topic about how open is too open for world design. As someone who likes to meticulously explore every inch of the map it meant that some areas were annoying to go through. As an example the ruins with the Liche Queen all the way to the greys temple in the expansion were annoying to explore and felt as if it took ages. Gathering the 3 ingredients for a potion caused me to entire maps with multiple “exits” in the shape of bridges. And that led to a lot of back tracking as I tried to make sure not to miss an inch of the maps. Really frustrating design in my opinion.
ARPG’s are known for their linearity and depth of character development as well as fighting loads of hordes and surviving in the coolest way. This genre is not meant for wide open worlds.
This is why I’ve avoided downloading it even after all this time of playing TQ and collecting items.
I imagine similar tools will come about after Grim Dawn sees a full release. The dev team has taken a very open stance towards modding. Luckily, you will have the option of not downloading them.

Thing is. You can’t Not Download a tool such as TQVault unless the ingame shared stash is much larger then any ARPG currently had. In Torchlight I installed a mod which allowed 19 chests in town. Not really convenient, but at least I didn’t have to go use a 3rd party program to stash all epic/set item/legendary drops. Let alone complete entire epic sets from only gathering one piece of equipment which nullifies the entire purpose of an ARPG…finding loot.
Hopefully Grim Dawn will have an immensely huge stash possibility in-game. How difficult would it be to come up with some “magical” in-game solution for 100 tabs of extra space. It is mere data so would only take up a few kilobytes of additional space.
Would be much appreciated for people like myself that can Not use the cheat function in such tools for only so much time. And when you do start using it… well then the game is ruined. Once you played the story and seen the areas once it’ll be enough. Even trying to create other classes and builds won’t really keep me around long enough. You can quickly see how each skill looks and works and then no reason to keep playing. I feel it is really important to finally have an ARPG with a abnormally huge in-game stash. It has a much larger impact then we’d think it seems.

In hindsight it would be rather stupid to have 100 extra tabs of stash. Not really user friendly. Since it would be a “magical” stash the items stored could simply be reduced to the size of 1 square instead of its normal size where it would take up 4-8 squares. That would significantly reduce the amount of tabs to wade through. Just like gold dropped from the weirdest creatures that have no reason to carry it. And the fact gold as a drop is barely has any worth in ARPG’s…the mechanic is simply outdated and needs to be re-worked in my opinion.
Ever heard of mules? On the other hand, I guess most people don’t enjoy sorting equipment for about 20% of their play-time. I’m willing to bet someone will make something like vault that is just storage or at least has less of the other features. Hopefully Crate will come up with something that will make that unnecessary, but we’ll see.

The currency in Grim Dawn (iron) will be more use throughout the game than in Titan Quest. If it ends up that the end game involves useless mountains of iron, we can probably get that resolved through community input either in Alpha/Beta or the expansion.
Any form of currency is an issue with ARPG’s. I can’t recall any in which the currency didn’t lose its value really fast. The only times you actually use currency is during the earlier levels to buy gear upgrades. In most cases you can work around it by simply farming the first few bosses a couple of times. Before you know it the currency loses its value. You make more then you could ever spend, because the sell value increases of your new found loot. Also because the things you’d spend the currency on becomes less in number the further you get.
Just like D2 people won’t trade gear for gold, but end up trading item for item. Not necessarily a bad thing, because it works and keeps the economy in balance. As long as Grim Dawn and its successors will never have an AH/RMAH like D3 we’ll be fine in that regard. The only thing that mechanic does is cause hyper-inflation. It not only causes the currency to be meaningless, but the items as well.

Thanks for the links. So far read everything in the Developers section. Haven’t given the Ideas & Feedback a glance yet. Will do it in due time.
