Hi,
I noticed that there are a lot of late game sets and items with high conversion of all or at least a lot of damage of one time to another, sometimes restricted to a certain skill. So I think, hey, it would be cool to have a build for that.
But what do you do while leveling? The way I see it, you can do two things:
- Invest a lot in the original damage that you have before conversion, but then when you change it all those nice damage bonuses are useless and you have to respec to the new damage type
- Invest a lot in the target damage immediately, but then you need skills that deal that damage, and once you get your target equipment, you then respec those skills to other ones that deal the original damage.
But both sound to me like you suddenly play a completely different character once you get to equip your endgame equipment. I’d rather have a more natural progression towards my endgame build. I know that at lower levels there are some conversion items, but their conversion percentage is nowhere near to where you want to be in the end, so do you gradually replace these items, so that you start as an <original damage> build, then for a long time you are some kind of hybrid until you finally arrive at your <converted damage> build?
I should add that I’m not someone who likes to rush through content to get to level 94 as fast as possible. I want to actually enjoy the build already while leveling it, because if I rush and I’m suddenly max level, then what’s the point of playing the build anymore? Yeah, I’ll enjoy playing my finished char for a bit, but I think it will get boring fast.
So do you have any tips for that?
PS: I’m not looking for finished builds that already tell me when to invest in which skill and when to wear what, I try to avoid other people’s builds and rather come up with something myself. But I would appreciate some more general tips on how you approach these kinds of builds.
Edit: I just realized the thread title is a bit strange, it should rather be something like “How do you build for late game conversion items/sets?”, but I can’t change it now.
I tend to level as solo-mastery before lvl 70. Just grab stuff you want to use and bind it to corresponding dmg-type devotions and you are good to go.
It’s normal to play a completely different build for levelling conversion builds. These are the builds that will never be possible at low levels due to lack of itemization. Especially on things like Cold>Fire or Elemental>Aether builds, this is common. As you said, there are two options, playing around the original skill and damage type or playing around the desired damage type before switching at the appropriate level. I personally prefer the second, and the progression is a bit more natural.
If you really want a natural progression for your chars when levelling, though then conversion builds might not be for you.
EDIT: Note that I’m talking about full conversion builds (Most Aether Binders, Non-cold Hagarrad, Chaos Fire Strike, etc.) There is actually one exception for this “natural progression” thing when it comes to conversion builds: Beronath Physical Soldier. Take Witchblade for example. You level with your usual Cadence/Blitz combo until you get to 94, where you can start equipping Mythical Beronath, Reforged to convert all the chaos to phys in Solael’s Witchblade and Mythical Gladiator’s Distinction converting all vit to phys in Second Rite.
I really enjoy CDR builds. Offers a lot of active play style and cool combos. So I typically go for Mirror/MoT/BB chaining builds.
Trying to deviate away from that, but the nodes in aeon’s offer so much love.
P.S. Just saw your edit. In short, it’s extremely difficult to build for late game conversion sets as these sets are item dependent. Your best build is to do a leveling build (e.g. PRM, Night’s chill, FW, etc.) and then to spec for the item set of interest once you can use it.
What I love about Aeon is that it singlehandedly solves Slow res, Cunning and Spirit problems. If I can afford it,
I always get the first three nodes on non-TD builds.
Don’t forget the 75DA and 6% dodge!
Not to mention you also get easy access to both spear and dying god. OA 4 dayz.
Depends on the build in question. You can get by somewhat well with % weapon damage, some flat damage to whatever your main damage type is (along with your weapon being that type of damage via conversion) and resist reduction.
That’s what I did while levelling the 5 WPS Aether Apostate without the Magelord set/Diviner’s Vision pieces - I relied on Troll Rage initially (later Shard of Beronath) and my WPSes to provide a decent chunk of % weapon damage and paired it with Spectral Binding/Wrath (and later Mortality). Didn’t matter that Bursting Rounds, Chilling Rounds, Storm Spread etc. weren’t doing Aether as they are fantastic for weapon damage.
Thanks for the tips, guys! I thought it might me difficult to do it like I want, but at least there are some specific builds that would work.
But I didn’t quite get what the CDR builds have to do with it…
