I play HC and am building a small army to take on the game.
A 62 lvl Druid
a 68 lvl BM
a 40 lvl Pyromancer
a 36 lvl Pyromancer
a 67 poison dreeg poisoner.
I’ve posted about him and received fine comments on how to change him to a vit conjuror. I have no idea what kind of stuff he’ll need. And it now costs me 5000 iron to reallocate a point. So respecing will be difficult.
I got his dps up from 5k to 7k with kind advice from the forums and grasping vines is going to be buffed in the next patch.
But I just don’t think he’ll make it.
I was wondering how you guys feel when you put so much hard work into a character, only for him to turn out a dud.
It’s really annoyed me, as my intention is to build an army 15-20 HC chars from 40-60 before going to Ultimate.
How did you feel when you realised you’re character is f***ed?
Honestly not that bad because i love re-rolling toons in GD
Im not a “end-game” type of guy anyways so i love starting fresh and seeing just how far i can take a character with out dying. I don’t play HC but still have a tendency to stop using toons after i die.
Plus realizing why your toon would be useless is a great learning experience
Haven’t been there yet, my chars currently are levels 65 - 70 and doing ok (need to up my defenses though, my offense is fine right now still). I am not playing HC tho, so I have more wiggle room.
If I feel they get stuck I will respec, don’t think I will ever be fully stuck, unable to fix via a respec (so far I did not respec at all, just shifted the focus of where I invest).
Are you copying builds? All my builds are self-made.
I play HC - no trading and invent my own builds. I like experimentation. Of course a build is much less likely to f*** up if is’ cookie cutter
at first I feel thirsty and I drink a tonic of clarity.
Second, I reset my skill points.
If you play HC, I would do the following, because you really need
a long term strategy.
Start with a summoner, start farming only in elite mode, I did Fabius-
and treasure trove runs. You definetly will find some good gear AND
stay alive.
Start a good HC-retalliation build with the gear found with your first char
and start farming in HC-Ultimate. I also did Fabius-runs (he cant crit
or anyway beat you with such a char) and treasure-trove runs + and
visited Etram fald for legendarys.
And about your “failed” char. If you have very good equipment, and you will
finally get it with point 1. and 2., most of the char-builds are Ultimate-viable.
However it can definitely be done using different characters first ot get through to ultimate. In fact, I’d say ignore farming elite, go straight into ultimate. Act 1 is still pretty easy and you get better loots than ultimate.
My first 2 characters to ultimate were a Aether AAR tank build (who has died since), and a poison/acid DEE build who is still going strong.
Then I tinkered with a pet build, and a retaliation build. Got bored of them in act 2 ultimate.
Then brought up a quickjacks trozans mage, a vitality pBlades caster, and I’ve just strated a tank and bash physical soldier.
So in answer to your question, I don’t ever feel bad. I keep pushing forward even if t he kill speed goes down. And as cool loot drops, decide if I’m going to make new toon around it, then bring that new baby up from level 1 by the time you’ve done 10 toons into the beginning of ultimate, you should easily have enough twinking gear that non of your builds feel shit (unless you’re doing something waaaaay off that has no synergies from the classes you are using ).
So have fun, enjoy feeling weak, because you’ll only be a few more drops away from being OP as F@%$#
In path of exile, I had 10 hardcore characters die, and it was soul crushing at first. But the effort required, and the feeling of accomplishment, is totally worth it. Sure getting OP characters is fun for a while, but having an OP character that you put sweat and blood into gives long lasting enjoyment and sense of accomplishment. You can compare yourself to others who are failing a lot too, and feel good.
If you give up now, you might as well give up being successful in real life as well. Anything takes sustained effort, doing things which you are originally shit at. If something comes easy, it means that niche is already taken by someone else, because anyone can take it. Only by metaphorically walking in a certain direction, further than anyone else, will you reach your place.
But of course not all games are like this. Lots of games are full of non-stop reward, like hearthstone or overwatch for example. But honestly I’ve grown far more from the hard games that force you to get better or get shit on. Growth comes from struggling rather than decadence.
Turnip you can easily farm to level 75 on Elite alone. When you hit that level your drops start improving. The monsters who are scaled below you would have a hard time killing you. You’re giving up a little too early. Have patience and farm. The gear will come, it always does.
only way you can really fuck up a char is by not putting enough points in physique. everything else you can respec. so keep in mind to put those points in physique even if you play magic dmg caster
no, I am not following any guides, just pick skills / devotions I want and see how that goes. I don’t think any of mine are currently as streamlined as the ones in the build compendium because of that and maybe that has to change during Ultimate, but so far they work well enough
this. my first ever character bleed warder is pretty much useless at least for me… sitting that one out at 50/50. hopefully someone can help me rewind back time, am too lazy to reroll a new one…
Even though I do play softcore, ever since the full release I do plan my builds using GrimCalc. Of course not always I follow the line in 100% as the stats can change depending on the gear I find. But I did finish the game with all of those planed builds. The only builds that I didn’t plan were done when the game was capped at level 25 and 35
So far the only build that somewhat didn’t work was my hybrid pet build Trickster that I wanted to build around Winter Kings gear and Heart of the Mountain pendant. Defenses are alright from Embolding Roar resist and Primal Bond absorption, but the clear-speed lacks quite a bit. Not really dissapointed by it as I’ve always read here that hybrid-pet builds aren’t good for end-game.
You just need items that boost your vitality damage and give you bonuses on skills like sigil of consumption, wendigo totem, possession too ain’t bad. Ofc look for health and resistences too
You can find a lot of green/blue stuff with those attributes, to use until you find the purple stuff. Vitality conjurer it’s a build non so gear dependant and i think you will enjoy it if you manage to do the switch.
attribute points is something you can’t mess up with. the points you get from them is too little too worry about. You get more then enough from your mastery bars, gear and along the way with devotions. there are so many layers of customization in GD that attributes have become pretty much obsolete.
I always plan out skills / devotions / end game gear. Then I write down the +resist / phy / cun / spi the gear / devotions / skills give me. Then I figure out what components / augments I need to hit a minimum of 80% resistance on ultimate. Then I take those components and use them on the same slots with low level gear (if applicable, they do have level req’s) and every time I get a better item for the slot, I break down the other item and keep the component and then put it on the new item. This allows me to have really strong resists throughout the entire leveling process Then I figure out the minimum points I need to spend in the 3 main stats to use the end game gear and put those points into those stats immediately while leveling up and wait till end game gear / 85 to see where I want to put the rest depending on if I want more OA / DA / HP / chance to hit.
there’s nothing that isn’t an absolute joke for poison w the right spec, but it’s not glamorous. i usually find out my useless toons are useless long before late game lol :o
Thanks for the feedback.
He’s getting stronger my DEE conjuror.
It’s just I had a lot of feedback saying I shoulda gone nightblade instead of shamen for the poison synergy.
my warlock got pretty sick, maxed Flash Freeze is ridiculous combined with all the other AOE, the only challenging mob so far is iron maiden since you can’t kite her.
