How do you get labours to cut more trees in a tier 1 village?

How do you get labours to cut more trees in a tier 1 village? I can not produce enough lumber to build all the buildings and keep the wood cutter and sawmill going. Suggestions?

Don’t build too much too quickly.

I know what you m ean by this. There is a struggle where at some point you need the wood but you are starting to build and no matter how many laborers you have they just don’t seem to be removing trees so you are struggling along until you can open the work camp up. I get it. I just use a mixture of removing resources and clearing small areas and I try to build in the treed areas as well to help the clearing until I struggle through to level 2.
