Just thought I’d introduce myself to the forum and give a quick hello. Real name is Isaiah, but I often go by Illuvatar/Xavier.
I am getting REALLY excited about how these indy game developers have chosen to be so open with their fans about the games their making, and choosing to get their development dollars by way of the fans interested in the final product, but also being allowed to be so involved in that process (alpha/beta testing).
Reading news about Diablo 3 (before I could play it, just built a new computer at the end of July) led me to hear about TL2, which led me to PoE and GD. I have invested in PoE already and have been addicted to it now that my time with D3 is coming to a close.
I will be investing in Grim Dawn as well come payday, and am a bit sad/bummed I found out about the KS WAY TOO late/haha, but that’s alright, I’m glad I can still contribute. I loved Titan Quest/Immortal Throne, so I am very much looking forward to its ‘spiritual’ successor.
What a great time to be a fan of ARPG’s, we really are being spoiled. I haven’t played much TL2 yet, but have been enjoying that game as well.
I guess this wasn’t as ‘quick’ of a hello as I intended.
Welcome to GD, Illuvatar, and glad to see you found GD from other arpg game forums. I am curious to know how much you invested for PoE (You don’t have to answer this, if you want to) since PoE got a lot potential to be a great ARPG game?
Yea, it is a bit too late to KS Grim Dawn, but luckily you can still pre-order it. There is four different tiers to choose from. Of course, I got the $85 since it got everything from the previous three tiers including the ones that $85 bring.
@JohnNamikaze - I purchased the “Supporter” pack for PoE, but will be upgrading to Silver this payday. I would really like to work my way up to Diamond (Gold is certainly attainable, but Diamond may just be out of my price range/what I can choose to afford to donate), and thanks for the warm welcome. I will be getting the $85 pre-purchase tier for Grim Dawn btw.
@Thelionheart - It is indeed shorter, but I found when trying to create usernames throughout the years on various forums, Illuvatar was available most of the time. Speaking of, I am SO excited we get to venture back to ME this Christmas, I thought it was never going to happen with all the BS that stood in their way before they settled on PJ directing again. Is shorter better?
@Smartfox - it’s actually a character in the novel by Tolkien “The Silmarillion”, and as somebody pointed it out here, Illuvatar is also known as Eru. I borrowed/stole it from literature, basically. Illuvatar/Eru is the fictional Creator/God.
I can’t say I’m looking forward to the hobbit. It looks like he’s taking it in a completely different direction than what I have always envisioned it as: a whimsical and fantastic coming of age story. I just think he’s gonna try to make it “epic” where I see it as being more or less a children’s tale. The only major complaints I have about the LOTR movies would be that I would have liked a more genuine translation from the books (although I think he mostly did a fantastic job, with a few notable exceptions such as Arwen, when Aragorn gets Narsil, and Gimli being too much of a comic relief character.) and I also always envisioned ME armor looking a lot more medieval, where bucket helms, great helms, norman shields, etc. were used instead of the fancy armor they use in the movies. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the movies and have all 3 of the extended editions, I just have small gripes here and there.
I always look forward to Peter Jackson movies. I know people weren’t too thrilled with his take on The Lovely Bones either, but I found it to be such a powerful film, and the only thing that bothers me is that he seems to make films with Academy Awards on his mind. I could be wrong, but that’s probably why they are always epic, and one of the main reasons he takes such liberties with the stories, IMO of course.
I also wonder how the film will look with the higher FPS, I guess I’ll find out in December, but I know James Cameron will be doing the same for his Avatar sequels.
