How to duplicate characters?

Before I could easily duplicate characters just by copying them and renaming, but now I noticed that if I do so the new character can’t be found, and the old character becomes “invalid” and when you load him up you get the Grim Dawn Intro sequence and your character becomes level 1 and you lose everything. It’s so destructive that I lost one of my older characters this way.

It sucks but I guess the devs don’t want you cheating.

How do I get around this? (without using GD Defiler preferably, since that tool can’t seem to find my save games)

I’ve seen a topic in the utilities section named “blank level 85 chars” or something to that effect, so I assume that would serve your purpose.

However, if you’re looking to try certain skill point combos and whatnot, the skill calculator at Grim Calc is amazingly thorough, including constellations. Graceful Dusk can help plan endgame gear for you too. Skipping through the leveling process can remove a significant portion of the experience of not only the game but gameplay best practices for your class. That being said, it is primarily a single-player game with modding capabilities, so download 20 level 85s if that is your brand of enjoyment! =)

I’ll give it a look see. But how does that work? Can I just copy that into my savegame folder? My problem is that copying stuff into the folder doesn’t work.

I don’t think that ever worked, as the char name is stored in the save file, so you never actually rename it

try the following

Get GD Stash
Copy your char to a different dir
Rename that char in the tool
Copy the original char back

Make sure you are NOT using cloud save…
