How trustable is dps ?

Hi,

A somehwat theoretical question about dps : the character sheet indicates a number as our dps. However it seems that the monsters in game have various resistances. Do you feel like a “pure damage” character can be efficient in ultimate, or does it absolutely need to include some -res, -armor gear ?
I am asking because right now I have a lvl 78 demolitionist with a nice gear (23k dps) but it is very fire oriented, and my average crit (8k) is well below what it should be on paper.

Thanks !

DPS isn’t that important in Ultimate. Look on Character Sheet 2 at the Top it will show you your Damage Per Hit (for skills on your RMB/LMB) which is a better idea of your skills damage. You definitely want some form of -resists in Ultimate as it is quite broken.

It’s a good way of comparing like with like. If we both make an Aether ray build, for example, and you make a Battlemage, while i make a Sorc, comparing numbers on DPS makes sense, provided neither of us relies too much on procs and have similar amounts of res reduction.

not trust able at all comparing procs etc, on top of that it does not calculate stuff like resist stacking(very important in higher difficulties)

You can rely on it for comparing DPS between skills, as someone pointed out. It doesn’t actually predict your character’s DPS output, any summoner player could tell you that.

DPS is good for knowing your DPS only using your Left/Right Click. That’s about it. Doesn’t factor in anything else. It’s pretty worthless.

Unless you mainly use your left and right mouse buttons.

I concur. I have a measly 150 dps yet ultimate isn’t too difficult. One good thing about being support. Reflect damage is negligible.
