Excuse me while I toot my own horn, but I just killed Log on elite for the first time after dying 10+ to him, and I’m quite pleased with myself.
I’m running a Conjurer who’s basically a full-Shaman with CoF. I’ve built him up to wreck things with Wind Devil (with Reckless Tempest devotion attached to it) and Storm Totems. It’s incredibly satisfying to have a screen full of lightning at all times. Everything up until Log was pretty easy, but man, fuck that guy.
I went in the first time with 0% chaos resistance and 75% poison resistance and got absolutely destroyed. After leaving and building up chaos to 50% (and redoing the entire dungeon again) I was able to do enough damage each run to whittle him down. There are a ton of mechanics to this fight and I had to learn how it worked on the fly; for instance, I didn’t know damaging the tentacles hurt Log until my fourth try or whatever.
After switching out some gear and trading some dps for armor, the fight was finally doable and I killed him. It brought back fond memories of raiding in WoW, watching a boss’ health bar slowly tick down and going “yes, yes, YES, OMG FINALLY.”
I even died needing one or two more hits for a kill.
Overall, an incredibly satisfying experience. My average item level was only 49, so I feel like had I farmed for some better gear I would have had a much easier time…but screw that.
I think I feel particularly proud of this kill for a few reasons:
-
I’ve never beaten an aRPG on anything but normal, nor have I ever felt compelled to before Grim Dawn.
-
I literally died outside of Devil’s Crossing when I first started Elite, and I worked hard on this character to make him viable.
-
People have been complaining about this fight’s difficulty and so I’m glad I was able to beat it, especially at lvl 63 with an item lvl of 49.
I have no idea how anyone beats this game on hardcore. Shit’s crazy.
Also, how does anyone get to 85 before the end of Ultimate? I really don’t see myself progressing 22 levels in one difficulty; though I do need to farm gear before heading into it.
Edit: See that empty XP bar? That was half-full before I started this fight.
