I want to know your Monitor and if the new UI is popping too much for you

Hello,

I previously made a post regarding the new UI in Patch 1.3, specifically about certain elements popping too much on the screen.

To be clear, my issue isn’t about preference or fit. The image is popping too much and feels blinding , making it hard to look at. I’ve never experienced this in 8–10 years of using this monitor with any other content.

What I have tried:
I have attempted to adjust the settings in-game, on my monitor, and via the NVIDIA Control Panel.

My question to you all:
I would like to know which monitor you are using and if you feel that certain elements are “popping” too much—specifically the yellow rings/squares around skills in the menu, or the Character Name/Attributes/Stats in the inventory.

Please include your monitor model and panel type (TN, IPS, VA, or OLED).

My current setup:

  • Monitor: ASUS MG278
  • Panel Type: TN

I plan to upgrade my monitor eventually since technology has evolved significantly in the last decade. That said, I was hoping I wouldn’t be forced to change my monitor just because of a UI update, especially considering the game is intended to run on hardware from 8 to 10 years ago.
That is, if a new monitor would change the way I see the new UI.

Yes. To be blunt about it, it’s a poorly designed UI and, other than having the options for orbs/bars, has taken a step backwards. The skill icons themselves are too mute, and have this weird shine effect, which makes the golden/yellow borders too bright.
Yellow is not a “quiet” color. The background I think is also darker than what it was before making it pop out even more.
What doesn’t help is the new character images, instead of being in a frame, they now blend in with the rest of the panel, which also makes it more busy.

Then add some glows behind every number and little lines around all borders, and you have a whole lot going on in a screen that should be just about the skills.

I got 2 screens, one is a 32" IPS 4k LG, of which I don’t know the model, the other is my laptop screen, also IPS.

Edit: it’s not your screen.

manufacturer says this:

17.3" Thin Bezel FHD 1920x1080 IPS-level anti-glare display LCD (300Hz, 72% NTSC)
(ntsc being some measure of colour accuracy i think?)

my eyes say the skill tab kinda maybe somehow works (icons are spaced out) but character window + inventory and stash feel too harsh. it’s not easy to look at, kinda hard to describe though. too much contrast, too often switching contrasting colours in too small a space? i also immediately turned off the new item highlighting last patch.

components might be worst but no background on the character windows is also pretty bad. i want to say it would be quite a bit better if the background wasn’t just completely black instead of the old dirty rusty texture.

doubt it, i seem to be having the same problem and also never had this happen before.

any background texture is gone, it’s all black.

this
“everything” becomes hugely noticeable if you run 1.2.1.6 and v1.3 side by side
you can also see the “saturation”/shine complaints elsewhere UI is shinning too much in some area Background on Character Sheet and Quest Log Too Dark (i honestly also feel like the new darkmode style makes it particularly worse in some places like char sheet/it’s not just a contrast thingy) - like the char name and resistance title kinda displays that issue too.
Even the new orangey/red options checkmarks look more blurry?/smudged than the old crisp green lines checkmark from what i guess is stretched ui scale? despite having the settings as is entering right from 2.1.6 into 1.3

the skill tree just takes it up to 11 because the hyper polished glowing gold etc is everywhere (unlike char sheet where it’s mainly the char name that has the most shine)

(i have the game on GoG too so i can run both versions at the same time and see how the contrast stands out, no pun )

Based on this, you are not directly but indirectly saying mostly everything is kind of a downgrade, right?

My prediction FoA drops October 2026, so there is still time for changes, if they do decide to partake further into this. Because there are other bigger priorities that requires their man power.

I use the Gigabyte M27Q-P (1440p IPS). There’s definitely some blooming.

If you want to get a new monitor, they’ve gotten very good for very cheap. I like Monitors Unboxed’s reviews, and they just did a roundup.

I keep being tempted by the M27UP (160 Hz 4k monitor for $330). Free Resident Evil Requiem is even more tempting…
