They’ll never understand. Some people just try out a build and if they die once, then “it doesn’t work”. They expect the whole game to be a breeze and not even bother tweaking their builds or their gameplay.
I have to agree with Zantai on this. During play testing shit was kind of ridiculous in certain situations and is much better now.
Point is, all my characters suck tbh, i don’t bother with bis items or min maxing, i just play for fun and can still clear acts 5&6 with just a little bit of patience. Shield or not. In fact most my builds don’t use shields (i’m a DW kind of guy).
You know, I get that you really want to be some kind of Tseric Vol. 2 but you’re cargo culting the gimmick. And I know that you know that there’s a wide gulf between “hard” and “absurd”. Going from 13k hp to dead in the span of a second with 2800 DA and all resists at >80% to a pack of yellows? I’m gonna go ahead and place that firmly in the latter.
I would absolutely love to see you post these builds of yours that “breeze through the campaign” yet still qualify for any sort of “glassy” description. Either your definition of glassy is wildly different, or your position as a dev adds an enormous amount of insight to your playing that you continually fail to acknowledge. It could also be both.
When I say “this route” I mean the route wherein you see people saying “hey my build went from fun and functional to a garbage fire as soon as I crossed the threshold of expansion” and your response is to drop your smuggest “well it’s supposed to be hard.” If I wanted to be told “git gud fgt” I’d go on your exceptionally classy official discord. Because having to switch up my entire play style just to attempt the expansion material? That makes me drink.
Just to be clear Crate does not run the GD discord. In fact the “official” was dropped awhile ago because of… reasons.
And no one is telling anyone to Git Gud (unless it is a joke). Some of us play testers (including me) are pretty casual and don’t/haven’t had have these issues.
Shields help, yes. Are they necessary, no. :undecided:
One incident doesn’t make the game. There currently are is a mob or more with a probably bug, as they are dropping your DA by 140%. It was probably supposed to be 14%. If you run into a big pack of yellows without any DA at all, no one, shield or not, survives most the time.
I would consider all of my builds glass cannons, none use shield and all can manage Act 5&6 on Ultimate with minimal fuss. Unless you’re bulding the tankiest tank that ever tanked then you might die, but you can die in this game without the entire experience being ruined?
For reference, my main 3 chars at the moment are a pure Chaos Purifier, Fire/Lighting Mage Hunter and a Vitality Witch Hunter. All have around 2700 DA, not much more, max health is like 14k or less, resistances are at 80 and that’s it. Pretty standard stuff and they cope fine and don’t die if I kite a bit on higher resist enemies. But this is how the game works isn’t it? You reach a challenge and adapt? It’s not designed so you can 1 shot everything in the game by the end and while maybe there are some mobs that aren’t behaving as expected (haven’t experienced this myself) I would say pretty much any build played right can beat all main campaign content bar Super Bosses without requiring a BIS gear and a shield. As mentioned, maybe your build just needs tweaking to work without shields, post em up and people will help you out.
Well my own experience saw the new content as pretty demanding and it is with pre-expansion gear. However once you level and get some 94 gear things change. Also like all games you figure out how things work and the boss fights etc. There is a learning curve but once you spend some time the new content is very doable with many different kinds of builds.
Truth is you can breeze through the Campaign, AoM included, only with Faction gear as long as your build makes at least some coherent sense.
Crucible post W150 is another topic and it really pigeonholes into 1 type of a build (CDR, shield, 3.2k DA etc) and its not rewarding apart from you knowing you did it once.
It’s not the first time I hear about some elite players having a high influence on devs, but even being praetorian I know nothing of this. PM me the nicknames, maybe? I’m curious.
The statement that you need 50% resist overcap and 3k DA in a5/6 Ultimate is false. Just capping resists is fine, if some are overcapped - good; and I find it comfortable at 2.6k DA. The thing that I feel is a great deal more important is armor. You wouldn’t want it below 2k.
Why not upload your builds to grimtools and link them here? I would absolutely love to see you post them.
Which type of yellow enemies present a problem? Crabs? Wendigos?
Overall I agree that some AoM content is still overtuned, but for me it’s mostly bosses like Carraxus, Bollag, the 3 quest wendigos, maybe some other.
Overall, be a little more specific, maybe? Otherwise you’re no better than these few guys that drop from time to time telling that they are disappointed how the game is still too easy.
That’s my Blademaster , SS into a pack of yellow trash and I’m lucky to survive , I’ve had to park him before the Coven , not done carraxus yet , I won’t have a chance . with pre AoM deathmarked I’m like 2.2 DA and 1.6k armour . All reses maxed .
I’ve changed him to Belgothian , so far still have 2.2 DA and Armour is now 2.4k . Still can’t play him , need the Belgothian slicer to finish the set .
Deathmarked is shit in AoM , it wasn’t all that good towards the end pre expansion , but it surely tells now , not found a problem with a number of chars 4 different builds , all with shields and all managing a lot easier .
Haven’t given my warlock a good go yet , still level 85 , popped into the expansion and nope not yet , bit squishy , oh yeah , no shield so basically parked and waiting on finding the mythical clairvoyants set .
I’m so glad I had a bunch of shield users to play in AoM because after the BM and a couple of others I might have just walked away tbh .
Hm, I leveled my Trickster in AoM and can´t say I ever thought about needing a S&B-Build.
First thing I noticed in Gloomwald: A bit more Poison resistance (80 %) would be nice. But that´s all till Malmouth and there everything was Crowd Control. And that is one thing I often see overlooked. Yes, CC often doesn´t work on bosses but you have to beat the enemies before them! So, get some decent CC and split up the packs.
In my case it was Grasping Vines. Crabs, Wendigos? Not a problem if you separate them. Same in Malmouth. You don´t have to facetank everything with subpar gear/while leveling.
Can either of you post your grimtools? Maybe someone here can help out
Difficulty spike upon AoM’s release was a little ridiculous from the POV of a new players or under-geared player. Plenty of changes have been made since then
I remember when I thought grim-dawn was broken because I couldn’t beat ULT mad queen or Mog on my Commando. I thought " It must be broken because I have world firsts on WoW and was one of the 1st people in the world to beat Inferno Diablo, I am a good player!" The reality? I was just shit at Grim Dawn and learned to get better thanks to the forums. Toss your pride and eat it.
