If there can only be 5 characters to play ALL classes

Grim Dwan has a total of 10 classes,
but do I really have to level up 10 characters? (sigh…)
So I thought: let’s just play with 5 characters.
(Unfortunately, as a working person, time is limited…)

However, this is an ARPG, how can there be no role-playing elements?
I would think:

If it’s a Warlord,
he would be a brutish maniac, wanting to kill everything.

If it’s a Druid,
she would be a goody-two-shoes, only doing good deeds…

——————

So, how would you pair them up?

(Rule: only 5 characters, no repeating classes. Well… actually repeating is fine, and more than 5 is also okay. )

(Actually… everyone can just simply mention which classes go well together, no need to be as detailed as I am…)

We don’t have the same outlook on druids at all…
Druids are the uncaring laws of nature personified. Neither benevolent nor malicious. they care about morals about as much as a grizzly bear eating your limbs.

Conjurer (Shaman + Occultist) is a lock for me. Pets, vitality, totems and sigils… plus the storm familiar … multiple connections both mechanically and thematically.

Purifier (Demolitionist + Inquisitor) is the ultimate in terms of Erulan high society training and hunting monsters. Plus, they are also the perfect rogue antagonist since they both have chaos support.

Spellbinder (Arcanist + Necromancer) feels like a natural mix, both in terms of arcane power but in Aether mastery.

Warlord (Soldier + Oathkeeper) Is the quintessential warrior. It also has a very classic name and combos well together.

Reaver (Berserker + Nightblade) Is the last 2 classe combo, but they do work well together mechanically. Thematically, not as much, but nothing is perfect.

No, you’ll actually need to level 45 with the new expansion if you want to get all possible combinations. :stuck_out_tongue: But! There’s more to a class combo than just the combo, there’s so much gear, you’ll have never ending fun trying to make all possible builds :smirk:

Blademaster: devoted only to the slaughter of individuals and honing his deadly swords and WPS skills. Morally neither black nor white: just red.

Warder: a fierce protector and guardian of nature, reckless ferocity combined with the discipline of the soldier leads to a calmer air of protection unless his rage is kindled.

Purifier: a morally correct and righteous gunslinger, he uses dual pistols and arcane runes to strike the fear of the empire into the hearts rebels and magic practitioners (and illegal immigrants). A cold and calculated killer; many have met their fate staring into his steely grey eyes and gun barrels.

Sorcerer: she doesn’t care about moral decisions or saving families; she just wants to rain fire from the sky. She never saves the skinner family, instead getting a rise out of the burning house. Still, treat her with respect and healthy amount of coldness, and she will tolerate you.

Pyromancer: much like the sorceress; he doesn’t care about moral decisions unless they involve his patron, Solael. Than he gets involved, spewing black flames from whatever weapon he chooses as he incinerates the enemies of Solael. Otherwise in his spare time he plays with his good doggies and lights random Dreeg aspirants on fire.

You love Demo and Soldier so much, you forgot the other 3 classes

Anyway, to not disappoint this thread:
I’m a terrible roleplayer, but here are 5 combinations I like covering all 10 classes:

(Soldier Necromancer) Deathknight
Cool name, good physical blade arc and cadence builds. Can use Krieg set.

(Demolitionist Arcanist) Sorcerer/ess
Great class for Bomberman builds, high dmg combined with great utility, one of if not my most favorite class for HC.

(Occultist Oathkeeper) Sentinel
Arguably one of if not the most flexible class in Grim Dawn and my favorite class on FG release.

(Nightblade Inquisitor) Infiltrator
Nightblade has so many juicy dual-wield builds, Infiltrator happend to be one of those that are still “left” after the other picks. Absolute beast for cold and pierce damage.

(Shaman Berserker) Mystic
The two fit well together thematically and having tested this class extensively in playtest I can say that it is indeed one of the classes coming with the Grim Dawn Fangs of Asterkarn expansion.

OP never said they wanted to play all the mastery combinations, just all the masteries.

Ahh I see what they meant now. :+1:

This is the most metal thing I’ve ever read and I love it. Exactly how I envisioned Belgo Blademaster, but could never put it in words.

Wait, why is joining Kymon’s Chosen “very kind-hearted”?

Edit: Just realized this was spoilers too lmao

You do know they’re a very bigoted murderous cult, right? Meanwhile the Vigil are just philomaths that try to preserve knowledge beyond death.

Oh

Before Forgotten Gods, she had already joined, unaware that it was an evil organization. It wasn’t until later that she learned the truth, and now she feels deeply regretful. The only way to atone is to keep fighting.

Maybe the character is very kind-hearted, but also oblivious and naive (or stupid).

If there can only be 5 characters to play…

Nightblade 1
Nightblade 2
Nightblade 3
Nightblade 4
Nightblade 5

… “to play ALL classes”

oh, well, fck, kinda making things complicated there for me.

(Personal disagreement with devs’ chosen name for the class aside) Primalist, - chaos synergy,
but alsmo more importantly meme pet synergy i’m hoping, “wolfing out” along your Hellhound is something i’m very much looking forward too, combined with the team buffs

Paladin, iconic class name, simple as that

Elementalist, arthritis incarnate, and sometimes i just love piano (also thunderstorm yay)

i am legitimately torn between melee Spellbreaker and Blademaster, as it is my absolute favourite styles,
if we go Blademaster then i’ll have the Spellbinder-beam-supreme shake 'n fries on the side
if Spellbreaker then we go Death Knight

Define “stupid”

That’s a decent plot. I like.
Spoiler warning tho for newer players?

Funnily enough, you encounter former Kymon’s Chosen towards the end of the Korvan City who made the same wrong choice and regret it. They can’t be fought regardless of your factions standings, you can just talk to them politely or curse them. It’s a nice detail.

You can do a little more than that. (but just a little).
