In a mastery rework MOD, which skills would you want changed/added/kept as is?

Hello fellow GD players.

Once the modding tools are released I’ll start working on my MOD which will have a lot of skill and mastery changes (next to new areas to explore, items etc.)

I already have quite a lot of stuff planned but in order to help fuel my creative process I wanted to ask everyone:

Are there existing skills you would like changed?
Do you love certain skills as is and why (or maybe they need just a few tweaks)?
Do you have certain skills (maybe from other games) that you’d like to see?

Thanks for any input

Whirlwind dude! Whirlwind!

Well, hoping to see whirlwind with gloves like Facebreaker in PoE (Brawler’s gloves?))

More passive talents to improve build and element diversity.
A couple of ideas:
Fire Trozan Sky Shards that leave flames on the ground;
Panetti Replicating Sphere: a 1 point talent that removes the replicating effect, switching it for a big missile that deal damage on impact and the explosion would deal additional damage and knockback, but the cooldown increases.

Stuff like that!

The Celestial Power Meteor Shower [Ulzuin´s Torch] does pretty much that.

Whirlwind is something I’d love to implement. I don’t have high hopes though… not sure the engine allows movement attacks like we want Whirlwind to be.

As for Facebreaker style item we’ll also have to wait for the tools. I’m guessing one could script in a bonus that works only if there’s no weapon equipped.

I love passives and aura’s/buffs so you’ll be seeing a lot of those.

Lol, that’s exactly what I wanted to do :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still not sure what I want to do with Panetti Missiles. The current skill is not my cup of tea and I definitely want to modify it heavily. A big missile is one way to go… Maybe even make it similar to Arcane Orb/Frozen Orb in D3.

I know I know, but I was thinking on something with more control than a proc on Attack, so to put the devotion points to something different

Yeah I was thinking something like that actually  or, to be more “in topic” with Grim Dawn stuff, a simple change of elemental damage.
Changing it from Aether to Vitality or Chaos, to push the Arcanist/Occultist burst damage.

I am also looking to build and make changes with my own overhauls once the Toolkit comes out, It will be good to see what other people think tho. Really looking forward to adding my own custom items to the game and even a faction.

Played around and have found around 3 places i have picked out for new hidden dungeons, I don’t think i’ll go as far and make new skills such as whirlwind etc but we will see.

God i just wish it would come out =/

None of the skills need to be redone, but we need a Lightning Caster Mastery. Maintaining self casted skills
Chain Lightning
Lightning Spheres
Lightning Strike
Lightning Storm (50 Mastery Skill similar to Devastation Except it drops continuous lightning strikes, or it could be 1 large Lightning strike that after words pulses multiple Lightning Novas in the area it hits)

Right now the game has all 3 but only as procs (unless you count storm tap which I’m pretty sure no one does)

Bloody Pox.

I was thinking of doing most of these as part of the Shaman skill set. Chain Lightning as a continuous casting skill being high on the priority list.

You probably won’t like my mod then

I’ve got numerous ideas for this bad boy to make it an awesome experience.

Man I can’t wait for the mod tools

Yeah hearing the ideas of others sparks the imagination. This will be an awesome hobby hehe

All I meant was that a Lightning Caster Mastery is way more important then updating the already existing skills

I hear ya. Well if others don’t beat me to a punch with Lightning skills or a Mastery I could always share a specific skill as a separate mod or something

For now I didn’t plan on making an additional mastery as I feel existing ones can hold all my ideas. Making a completely new one certainly takes planning… but who knows

Make Zeal from the Zeal Relic work like the good ol’ Zeal from Diablo II.

Also +1 for castable Lightning Sphere.

Make The Big One not be ass.

Oh man it’s been a long time  If I remember correctly Zeal striked multiple times in place of a single attack, and even multiple enemies right?

Now that I think about it, Amarasta’s Quick Cut from Nightblade has some semblance of that.

Hmmm… am not sure whether I’d like something like that coming from a relic as a proc… or maybe incorporating the idea into a default attack skill like Cadence.

Lol. To be honest I can’t stand Mortar Trap. In fact the same can be said for Thermite Mine, Grenado etc. everything feels so clunky and slow.

IMO Demolitionist should feel like a fire god and that’s one of my goals. Hopefully I can achieve it.

Adding a new mastery would be cool, but I think many of the stuff we would like could be added to the masteries we already have… like a Lightning caster.
It would be easier if that would be the Shaman, by adding new skills and passives, for example a new passive for Primal Strike to make it a ranged attack, at the cost of its physical damage and weapon damage.
Then you can insert a new “ability tree” focused on ranged lightning damage, something like

1)Lightning Strike---------->2)Lightning Sphere----------->3)Lightning Storm
Where

  1. Ranged electric attack that hits 1+(x+0.1*Level) targets, where “x” is a fixed number that increases by increasing L.S.’ levels
  2. The ability becomes a energy sphere that pass through enemies, dazzling 1+(x/2) enemies around the targets and stunning them for “0.5 to 3 seconds” depending on the skill’s level
  3. Everytime a enemy is hit by L.Strike it has a chance to proc a thunderstorm, dealing X damage to Y enemies

This is more or less what I was thinking for a Shaman caster.

But I would also change the Occultist Raven, adding stuff for a melee Demolitionist and absolutely change something in the Arcanist to give him some ranged fire ability, I think…

Lightning Mastery sounds neat.

Some abilities that need serious work (IMO):

Amarasta’s Blade Burst
Stun Jacks
Thermite Mine
The Big One
Upheaval (just make it an on-crit proc, add a CD; doesn’t need to squabble with WPS)
Cadence (to a lesser degree)
PRM (even lesser degree)

That’s all I got.

Yeah and it will be even better if you can pull that off through a mastery skill dude.
