Invalid Grim Dawn key?

Hey everyone,

Quick question. I backed Grim Dawn on Kickstarter back in the day. I got some co-op bundle with 2 keys, both for the game and first expansion. To make a long story short, I split the cost with a friend, who was no longer able to use the key, long before release. Now I still have the key, I looked on Humble Bundle, it was not revealed. Now I revealed it, planning to give it to my girlfriend so she could get the first expansion whenever it comes out. She already own Grim Dawn though, and the product activation in Steam says the key is invalid.

Does anyone know if these old keys just got deactivated or something?

Thanks in advance.

Since Humble linked to my Steam account, I have had troubles with yhinking I was revealing a key to give to someone and then the key is added to my steam instead… But I am not sure what happens to the key if you already have the product.

I suspect you need to contact Humble on this one.

Not sure, this is only a guess, but as you bought during the Kickstarter maybe the expansion key is tied to that and not giftable to anyone else.

As jiaco said, check with Humble.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I’ll just have to contact Humble. But granted that the Kickstarter option is for 2 keys, it’d be silly if they were both tied to my own Steam account. Of course it could be on Humbles end. I’ll try and contact them.

In the past the separate keys could be given to different people, which might include you. I doubt that has changed.

Contacting Humble is the best option. Good luck!

I would assume we will get extra keys for the expansion on Humble Bundle. So, if your girlfriend already owns GD, then she does not need to redeem a key for the base game again. Still, I would expect a different error message on Steam then.

That’s entirely possible as well of course that the keys are seperated. I didn’t consider that. But yes, as you said, if Steam had just told me “Product already owned” it would have been easier to understand.
