Is anyone running Drain Essence and how has it been?

Also, if you’re using the Cold transmuter and can comment on that, that’d be great. I’m running the Cold tranmuster and am at a loss for how to build around it. Though the Vit to Cold damage off-hand I found has me drooling. I mean, pfft, that one is pretty obvious, even though it’s centered around Ill Omen. Have to wait for 94!

I really probably should have gone with Necro/Nightblade for the cold transmuter because of the cheap cold resist reduction. Ah well, maybe next time.

Here’s my dude: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/w26MOnON

I don’t like him, so any suggestions you can make.

Maybe this should have gone in builds, but this isn’t really a finished build per se. I just want to get some thoughts on this thing. I think it’s very underwhelming. Even at 25/16. :o

take all those points out of overload and max out spectral binding.

personally i probably would have went with nightblade for that build.

This has been my experience as well. Could use some tuning.

Good tip, thanks. Yeah I’ll prob remake this guy with a Nightblade some day. Arcanist isn’t too bad. The cast speed passive is nice, but reduce resistance is just too good.

Glad I’m not the only one. I just don’t think anyone is using this skill so hasn’t really been noticed.

There is this build which is working well, but it may be very gear dependent, because DE gets really a lot of damage out of equipments, and I’m not talking about %damage to its damage types, but actual flat increases that then get multiplied by your stats.

DE is insanely gear-dependant, and with +skill bonuses gains incredible damage boost. And sonce most gear for it is vitality/aether, i find transmuter just underwhelming. It lacks proper support from gear

I am working on it, and I agree. Going to make a feedback thread on it. Lacking MIs but leg support itself is shit.
Should be done by tomorrow

I’ve tinkered a little with DE on a vitality Reaper build that I scrapped. Damage output was rather underwhelming but it got the job done when it came to healing.
My main annoyance with the skill isn’t with the damage but with the overall feel of the skill. It feels really sluggish, the damage always seemed to come later than wanted. On top of that it’s really annoying me that it requires a target to cast it without holding shift. Sometimes in some chaotic hordes I’d end up mashing my DE key only to realize I was 1 pixel off of targeting the guy in front of me. Really why should an AoE around the player require targeting? Just let me push the button and suck the life out of everything around me.

Or inquisitor. He also has “easy” resistance reduction.

The Damage scaling seems a little weird where at 26/16 the base damage is 3x what it is at 16/16. Requiring a target to work needs to be removed (if possible) to operate like Obliteration or AAR instead.

Easy ti’ll end elite (no tweaks, just a random spectral shield found), where you better have the gear with the mods for it

Well, i can understand the damage scaling on Drain Essence itself, because leveling it up also drastically increases energy cost (i’m not sure how to make it spamable it even at lvl 16, and at level 26, energy consumption is just insane).
Decomposition, however, has the same damage scaling as the base skill, but only slightly increase energy consumption. If it was possible, i’d got lvl26 Decomposition, and leaved Drain Essence at level1.
And yes, Drain Essence should either hit without target, or dont consume energy if there is no target to hit.
