Is this idea salvageable?

So this started when I looked at Korvaak’s Deception and kind of snowballed from there. The idea (however strange) was to have a sword and board Pyro who could drop a bunch of hurt on whoever was standing in front of him. I still can’t think of pieces to put in the empty slots (short of going LOLGREENSGOHERE), I’m debating what components to attach, and it’s a maze of damage conversion (oh and the shield is probably crap because no Myth) but I’ve had dumber ideas, I’m sure. Anyone got any ideas for it?

EDIT: I think I’m going to drop Runebound Topazes in whatever I can, but beyond that I’m still deciding on components.

What exactly is the idea you’re trying to salvage?

I see a half-assed sigil of consumption and half-assed firestrike. A Korvaak relic (which apparently has something to do with the idea) 3 different +flat damage auras taken right up to the point they really start to scale well and then left alone. And blackwater cocktail appears to fit in somehow as well. Seriously can’t figure out what you are hoping to accomplish here.

Right, I need to go heavy or go home on Sigil and Firestrike apparently. Again, it’s a fire/chaos melee pyro, I didn’t expect this to go much of anywhere because it feels like even with the AoM +to total skillpoints available it’s starved and I’m struggling to imagine how it would survive toe-to-toe with Chthonic enemies, but that’s why I’m tickling other people’s brains.

Silben is right. It looks like you’re trying to do or invest in many things all at once - Fire Strike, BWC, Sigil and so on. I’de try to bring things back and focus yourself (and hence your gear choices) on one or two of these.

At the moment, it looks like you’re trying to do some weird Chaos/Fire BWC Commando-but-Pyromancer-instead with Fire Strike and Sigil thrown in.

I think I understand but I’m not sure where to pare this down. Cut Sigil out entirely? That would obviate the need for Myth Grim Fate, allow me to dedicate points to Firestrike and other things, but I’ll need to find another mainhand.

The Korvaak relic confuses me but I keep thinking “maybe Crate had an idea in mind with this skill” and I’m trying to wring as much out of it as I can. Myth Grim Fate confuses me as well. As does Crate’s decision to sprinkle all kinds of strange and interesting bonuses across tons of equipment in a fashion that seems to hint at “do this maybe” instead of creating new items to house those bonuses.

EDIT: Myth Grim Fate seems like a natural for some sort of Fire/Chaos pyro but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a melee Fire/Chaos pyro. It makes a bad statstick for some other sort of caster-y build because of the Cunning req. What is Myth Grim Fate’s purpose? Why make it a sword?

EDIT 2: I don’t understand what Silben means by the flat damage auras scaling well any further than softcap. I see a pretty noticeable dropoff in flat damage add and other relevant stats past softcap on FT, not enough to make pushing past softcap completely terrible but I got the impression from his post that scaling got BETTER or something. SWF might be better at it than FT but I see no reason to dedicate more than softcap points to Possession. I’m rolling back BWC to being a one-pointer because I only really need its debuffing properties.

I love tinkering with odd builds! This one looks fun.

I think that you’ll have to choose between BWC or Sigil, due to points. My preference is sigil, mostly due to the fact that I dislike how BWC feels. sigil is easy, casts faster, and has the healing component that is lifesaver at higher levels.

GEAR:
Pants - I’d go with boneweave leggings. May seem odd initially, but disregarding the vit damage (which isn’t bad since you are doing some already), you have the skill + to sigil, and it casts it’s own sigil (which can stack with yours). I love these pants, the sigil is a lifesaver when you have those pesky raged mobs that are hanging back and pinging you while your stuck in the main group. Alternative is pretty great pants/tranquil mind, or Green for stats.

Boots- Golemborn is always good. Greaves of ill omen seems odd, but has vit damage, and solid resists on top of it. Greens are probably best for stats/resists.

Gloves - Voidsteel. Nothing else really compares. It’s got your damage type, attack/cast speed, much needed resists, skill bonuses for you…not sure what else would top it.

Shield- Aegis defender all the way. + allskills, and fire damage to boot. Nice Phys resists as well.

Devotions look fine, typical fire/chaos build. An alternative would be to go into order as well. You’d lose some top end damage, but gain a ton of defense.

Here’s a setup with no BWC. it allowed me to boost sigil allot, and add in flashbang as well as blast shield, 2 important demo defensive’s. The devotion tree is only an alternative, could still be tweaked a bit, but much more defensive, and takes advantage of your shield in the devotions.

The only time I recall seeing it used pre-expansion was sfbistimg’s Corpse Exploder. I’ve also considered using it once or twice for Mortar Trap builds pre-expansion because Implements lack Physical to Fire conversion which Mortar Trap (and Meteors) can use for more damage and happens to have +1 to Demolitionist. Nowadays though, there are much better alternatives for Mortar Trap :stuck_out_tongue:

I figured as much re: having to choose. I will say the debuffs and RR from BWC feel hard to give up but hard choices have to be made when strapped for points.

I’m desperately trying to avoid using greens because they’re such a diceroll but Boneweave might be the best option aside from a green, yeah. I don’t feel spoiled for choices. Which is really weird given how much gear there is in the game.

Thank you for the insight, I’m going to tinker with this a bit.

You know, I hear people say the Devotions are daunting and confusing and I really think they’re positively delightful to work with compared to the itemization. Nothing confuses me more than GD’s itemization.

threw this together real quick… chaos 1h/shield firestriker
