Hi Fellas,

I’ll give you my fascinating backstory because I know everyone loves that in the introduction forums.

First played Diablo 1 at my uncles when I was a kid and he was young enough to still play games.

Next developed an unhealthy obsession with Diablo II when it was released, apparently like every other Diablo II player.

Cried myself to sleep everynight after Diablo II died and only woke up with the promise of Diablo III.

Diablo III was released!!! I played it for about 1 week before I started to cry myself to sleep again at It’s horrendous structure. What can I say? Nothing that hasn’t been echoed thousands of times already. I struggled on for about 3 months before I quit entirely. I’ve never been more disappointed.

Played PoE after reading everyone saying it was ‘What D3 should have been’. I’ll admit, I enjoyed PoE. I joined in when they had A3 running and I played through quite enjoyably. They had a refreshing approach on the entire genre with those skill gems.

However, I found myself never logging back in to grind once I had completed the game (got level 60-something). I finished the content a couple of times, bought skill gems with real money and got a 6 linked warhammer with an awesome combination of gems(MultiStrike/Infernal Blow/Fire Penetration/Melee Splash/Melee Physical Dmg, but I never found myself coming back like I came back in Diablo II or Grim Dawn.

Grim Dawn is the only game where I keep coming back like I did in D2. The only game I feel the same as I did when I played D2. For that I must commend the creators of Grim Dawn. I may have finished the game but I keep coming back to farm? Why? I don’t know, but they’ve done something right for me to keep coming back. It’s not that I ‘felt powerful’ like people say about D2 because I was fucking powerful in PoE, but something else. The X factor if you will. Grim Dawn has it.

The only wish I have about Grim Dawn is that paths are randomized like D2 to farming areas and map is not visible after entering the area once. Remember searching A3 for Mephistos lair for 10minutes (unless you were a sorc or had Enigma) That’s what I would LOVE from Grim Dawn. Even if it was something like just the end game dungeons had randomized dungeons, like whenever you went into the SoT they had several different paths just to get to the High Priest. That’s the shiznit Devs! That’s where replayability comes from. If the dungeons beyond the Steps gates are randomized that would be a MASSIVE bonus. Imagine people entering a random room and not knowing that was the death room in that game! It would be awesome! Not as programmed as it is currently.

Anyway, I believe I’ve gotten a little off topic.

Bottom line, D1 > D2 > D3 > PoE > GD <3

Hello AmateurHour

Indeed a nice introduction!

yea I have seen a couple of gameplays from friends who played D3 or POE but it didn’t give the same feeling I have with GD.

So I stayed with GD and I am still loving it and play it almost every day

anyways AmateurHour, Welcome to the forum and Grim Dawn!

Thank you Dikkiedik!

You’re spot on regarding your sig as far as I’m concerned! After playing the game I’m definitely lookin at that loyalist pack!

Glad you are enjoying the game thus far which will only get better as time progresses.

I have also gotten sucked into Failablo 3 (or Sheablo 3) and was greatly disappointed in how the game turned out and how much of a waste of time I put into the forums thinking the devs cared about feedback.

Tried PoE while I believe it was still in Beta but I didn’t quite enjoy it as much.

In any case I’m glad that are quite a few Arpgs out there for people to enjoy since everyone has a different taste. I’ll be sticking with GD though

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Amateur.

Grim dawn has something. Just something that keeps me interested, keeps me logging in day after day, farming all the mobs, researching the forums for what skills are better, what stats I should choose, so on and so forth until I finally built my OWN successful character (with gear! all self found)

Diablo 3 just didn’t have it for me. Nor did PoE. Although I did enjoy PoE and it’s skill forest, it seemed only 8 viable builds were possible and all else was garbage, and only 3 classes in which to make these viable builds (alternatives could be used to lesser degree of effectiveness)

bah, I digress! Glad you are enjoying GD

Recently tried to play some Diablo 3 because the new “season” was released. Got to level 30ish and was like wtf am I doing on this game.

I feel you!

I’ve honestly really enjoyed Diablo 3 - I loved the first two games, but had got a bit tired of action rpgs. Probably had a break of 5-6 years, and got D3. I really enjoy playing my barbarian, and actually like the skill system where I can change it willynilly. It is a bit more casual, but the combat and skills feel and look great, and it still has the diablo feel to me.

Grim Dawn hasn’t quite gripped me yet, but I’ve only played 5 hours, and Im enjoying it more than POE. I love the setting, and the combat of my commando has a good feel (really enjoying dropping blackwater coctails on my foes)
