Juxtaposition of balance and end-game

This discussion is not about recent changes, it is about “moderation” of gameplay. So firstly i will ask you which one is better? Reaching end game gear fast and being very very slightly op or reaching end game gear slowly but dominating at the end. Or this question could be asked differently; What does “end game gear” mean? When you have it, should you dominate or be just fine? Or what is the justification of time played and gears that are acquired? Should time be a measurement for reward quality or not? Should end-game be dependent on RNG that much?

And finally… Does Grim Dawn answer these questions or not?

What do you think about these subjects?

I think if you have every best in slot item for you build you should dominate the content without too much effort. That accounts for the fact that by the time you got to that point, you are familiar with the game mechanics and know what you are doing (you shouldn’t be “immortal”, just very very hard to kill if you know what you are doing and your build makes any sense).

Reaching end-game gear fast is not great at all (cough d3 cough) as it kills the interest in the game equally fast. Some improvements to the RNG could be made so that players don’t get the same items all the time, but overall I think GD is doing fine.

Ok so what/where is thin line of “very very hard to kill” or “dominate the content without too much effort”? I think this is hard part of balancing. In d3 reaching eng game gear was fast, but slower when you go for best rolls because set items could have missed main bonus damages etc unlike Grim Dawn (they are almost static)…

I meant those two as the same thing actually.

My idea is that the end-game gear should provide enough survivability and damage for your build so that you would be able to successfully complete any game content without too much effort (which is the same as dominating it IMO) if you are actually using your build properly (ie. not staying in one place and expecting the game to complete itself … unless you play retaliation Warder ).
