Killrian shattered soul

does he still drop it? or is there somewhere else to get it? i seem to remember getting quite a few last year but now i never see it drop, farming him like crazy and it never drops.

It drops only from Kilrian, and on pretty regular basis. Are you sure he has an appropriate level for you?

It’s really a bitch to farm him for shattered soul, I know from experience… but eventually he DOES drop it, believe it or not.

He definitely drops it, I got it from him both times I killed him.

been farming him with a 77 (now 78) he is like level 70-71 so he should drop it right?

i was seriously starting to think they took it from him, i have not seen it yet, this is 10-12 runs i’ve lost count but found about 14 legendaries in this period.

My friend, I infer from the level difference that you are trying to farm him in Elite. Please do not do that - drop rates of extremely rare components (e.g. Killrian’s soul, Ancient Hearts, Aether Clusters) diminish with level difference. At a difference of around 7-8, they are asymptotically ZERO.

Farming Killrian, however, is the best way to get caster legendaries, as his loot table is not universal (unlike Nemeses). He drops “Supreme Spoils”, with an increased rate for Foci (e.g. The Codex) and Wands. In Elite, though, loot ceiling for legendaries is 68.

I do not believe that’s the case. The level difference modification is true for rare items, such as Ancient Heart. But Killirian’s Shattered Soul is a rare component, and I do not believe the same rules apply. I’ve gotten Ancient Armor Plates in low level areas no problem.

I never said they are zero, I said “asymptotically ZERO”. That means you may get one part in 20 runs or so. Problem is you are better off making a new character and farming him in Veteran, since he drops the components in all difficulties. Reaching Act 3 takes 6 hours max for an experienced player. If the OP has enough patience to farm Killrian 100 times+, he will probably get a complete soul in the end.

And yes, of course, you can get Ancient Armor Plates, Marks of Mogrdogen and Dread Skulls in low level areas. However, there are degrees of “rareness” even among “rare components”. To be more explicit, Prismatic Diamonds and Shards of Beronath are also “rare components”, but they do not drop at all (you have to make them instead). Killrian’s Shattered Soul, unfortunately, is in the same class with Arcane Spark - it may drop if you are overleveled, but chances are very, very low.

You’re confusing rare components like Tainted Brain Matter with normal components like Kilrian’s Shattered Soul, Focusing Prism, etc. The normal components don’t seem to have a cutoff point for levels whereas the rare ones like Blood of Ch’thon, Ancient Hearts, etc. do. I ran through Kilrian on Elite with my level 85 Druid and found KSS from him.

He will drop the component, but it’s not a common drop. Just keep at it and you’ll eventually grab all four pieces and hopefully some nice gear for your troubles.

My friend, you are wrong - Killrian’s Shattered Soul = Rare Component, while a thing like Searing Ember = Normal Component, if we get down to semantics. I do appologize if I warded things wrong in the first place. Tainted Brain Matter, Aether Shards and Ancient Hearts are an enterily different thing alltogether.

When it comes to crafting, GD taxonomy work like this:
Crafting materials:

  1. Rare Soulbound Crafting Materials (e.g. Blood of Ch’thon, Tainted Brain Matter, Ancient Heart, Aether Shard) - these items are required to craft some items and potions but cannot be traded because they are also “quest items”. Royal Jelly is in this class but it’s not exactly rare and will drop even if u are 20 levels higher than the mobs.

  2. Rare Componens - drop rates will decrease with level difference but will never get to zero. They will however get close to zero.

  3. Normal Components. - E.g. Searing Ember, Roilling Blood. These components will always drop.

OBS: Aether Clusters are NOT crafting materials but respect the drop tables of category (1).
Bottom Line: OP will get a complete soul but will take alot of patience.

I never do undercity more than once on vet/elite, but I seem to get them pretty often on ultimate. Got more than a few in my stash  If you’re SC and in desperate need of one I’m happy to toss ya one

actually that would explain why my new lowbie is getting frozen hearts to drop by the dozen. i went back to spined cove on elite and the level 69-70s didn’t drop a single one in 3 clears.

EDIT: except actually that should not be the case bc it’s not rare? i don’t think they’re telling us everything. my lowbie had 3 frozen hearts on screen today, but farming them intentionally i always came up empty. found like 7 in a random lowbie play session today

Frozen Hearts are just kind of rare.

Rare as in they drop rarely. Not rare as in “Rare Components” classification wise. Ow.

I got multiple quick Ancient Armor Plates while overleveling an area 30 levels. I never got rare item drops in areas I drastically overlevel.

Where’s the source for this? Because I was in another thread some while ago where it was specifically said that the level difference drop rate reduction applied to rare items but not components. I know what all the categories are. I’m just disputing your statement outright - that rare components are affected by this. I seem to get about the same drop rate of them whether I run low level or high level areas. The fact that devs bounced back and forth on this and I don’t know where that info is supposed to be doesn’t help.

KSS reportedly has a 1/4 drop chance or something of that nature. So it’s going to be a rare drop anyway, no need to suspect a level difference.

It’s perfectly possible to find KSS parts in normal with a character that has completed ultimate. I know because I did it. Where this reduced drop chance nonsense comes from I do not know but it’s wrong.

KSS has, in my experience at least, something closer to a 1/7 drop rate.

It comes directly from the devs:

The problem is the game guide is as vague as this statement - i quote: " Everything from the Aether Crystals dropped by Aetherial abominations to the iron-like fur of a Stonetusk boar can be used in the creation of items." - therefore they are classified as “crafting materials”.

Ancient Hearts are both Rare Soulbound Crafting Materials and Quest Items. We know for sure they have a break-point. How drop rates behave for Rare Crafting Materials that are not soulbound or quest items is a question that cannot be solved unless you run inferential statistics on more than 1k data points.

Let me tell you this: Evelyn Marie Adams won the New Jersey Lottery twice (in 1984 and 1985). Chances for that to happen are 1/1E14 (calculated by E. Sober). I got 3 Vestments of the Great Guardian yesterday by farming the Swamp King five times - can u reliable use that to farm the East Marsh ?

My friend, anectodal evidence is not evidence ! Science works on numbers and the problem with RNG is that even if you farm Fabius 1000 times and you get the “Notched Bone” every single time, you cannot reliably determine if it’s pure luck or loot table code manipulations.

The rare materials that stop dropping are only the brain/blood/heart/eye, nothing else. I admit that the wording here causes some confusion but the rare components are not affected. That’s what everyone has been trying to tell you.

Anecdotal evidence that contradicts another conclusion is better than no evidence for said conclusion. I’m unlikely to be Evelyn Marie Adams and other people have reported the same thing. At that point, reduction to 0% chance becomes rather unlikely. Believe it or not people had to make conclusions about things where there was not much data before and that’s exactly where we are right now.

Components on the website have their own special section. It’s very unlikely that they’re grouped with Rare Crafting Materials. They don’t have the same functionality. Developers may very well have grouped them that way overall, but that’s something they would have to have done intentionally.

“Crafting Materials” is a grouping, but that grouping also includes Normal Components and other things like Relics, so that grouping is not relevant.
