Kind of doing it backwards ....

Greetings to all struggling to make a new life after the Grim Dawn has obliterated what life you once had!

Why backwards?

Well so far I have read all of the development updates, played around with the GrimCalc, checked out a few of the builds and skills etc … but so far still do not own the game :frowning:

My current computer overheats after about 15 mins worth of TQIT and I am the process of arranging to get a new one built (and the old one fixed) and having my machine go pop and turn off every 15 mins of a new game would really be annoying … especially if you have just opened a one time chest and are reading for the item and … blackness overtakes him … sigh.

So I enjoyed D2 (fav was Paladin iirc) and TQ (fav was following in Poinas’ steps in spirit/Dream although the Dream/Hunting spear/bow build was cool too) so thinking I will enjoy GD by the sounds of it.

Almost always play solo so that part is good - almost never play online and the few times I did (back in the old D1 days I was usually obliterated by people who seemed to think that you walking onto a level and them pressing a button and your character getting nuked was ‘fun’ … ah well. Actually that is not quite true - I did spend a lot of time years back playing oniine MUDs (usally WOT themed where I tended to enjoy the role playing aspects as much if not more than the fighting ones.

Looking at the skills I see high level skills doing what seems to be low levels of elemental or bleeding damage and no idea if bleeding is actually useful here or fails to scale but I see posts about 35k damage and realise that I really won’t get a proper feel for it until I am actually ingame. At the moment learning towards Soldier (while wondering if a forceware shield attack counts as one of your attacks in cadence or not and if the discord transducer is a good idea but only if you have chaos or elemental on your weapon and if there are foes out there that are immune to physical etc so you need more than one damage type etc etc) with various possible secondaries. …

Ok - that is probably enough (more than enough) waffle for a first post …

Oh except that I found this site via the TQ Defiler courtesy of old mate Soulseeker although I may just try to avoid the GD Defiler so I don’t tweak myself out of a good gaming experience with extra stats or skill points looks at self sternly

Hello Viceregal, and welcome to the forums!

Best of luck on that new computer of yours!

GD Defiler is not around yet, and it likely will be some time before it arrives post-release of Grim Dawn, so no big worry there.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, it’ll be a little while before Soul get the GD Defiler up and running, but it will also replace the TQ one as well when he does so be warned. If you have one, you’ll have the other.

Noticed in some posts people talking about maxing out damage skills and killing stuff before it has a chance to kill you … and one by Madeira (sp) suggesting a more optimum build style was one less focused on max damage per se but on general survivability and multiple damage options … which sounded a lot more my style

I suppose any mechanics questions should really be posted in another thread huh?
