We really need a tool to perform each task. Leveling terrain alone is not getting it done in a reasonable amount of time. If you find an ore seam that you really need, but it is high up on the side of a mountain, you’re screwed using the leveling tool. It will take you decades to get the terrain level enough to mine.
Agreed. I think we need separate options for leveling, raising, and lowering terrain. I don’t mind the idea of needing to designate refuse piles or laborers excavating soil to be used for raising levels somewhere else. Something as simple as building a Motte and Bailey fort is frustrating beyond belief, a single mis-clicked leveling for a ramp or portion of the motte can ruin an entire build, when it should not be this difficult. Our ancestors 15000 years ago were able pile up earth for their defenses but a medieval settlement can’t figure it out? I’m looking forward to more involved raid defenses but I should be able to mold the terrain to some degree, perhaps pure stone should cost significant labor to lower but still. Providing for my arid highlands settlement on vanquisher is easy in comparison to the terrain tool.
I would say that the mere act of placing a mine, building a road or work camp would incorporate terrain levelling.
Terrain levelling should be as simple as from to. Level from a point to a point.
How many of your houses tilt to one side or the other?
I fully agree. It’s also a pain to have to remember later on that I still need to build the building, I often forget that I only flattened an area and then find out later I still am a mine short. On top of that, automatic flattening would be great with the road tool, it’s hard to predict what exact tiles you need to flatten to allow for a road being built.
