Ranged characters are already at disadvantage at this game. Build that use pistols/rifles/crossbows are weaker than melee build by definition. When you are using ranged weapons mobs swarm you quite often so you are shooting from melee range. I see no reason why proc on Lifegiver Signet should only work for melee weapons. It makes no sense.
I would like this to get at least some opinions. I don’t understand the reason for this item being exclusive for a melee character when the whole metagame is heavily biased towards melee builds already.
I don’t think this item is “exclusive for a melee character”, its not all about the proc (i think it’s kinda weak anyway).
Heck i use this ring on some of my casters with 0% weapon damage and/or ranged weapons just for the health and resists alone.
That’s the thing, I use it on my ranged character too, but it feels bad that proc (despite not being game breaking or really significant) is not working. It’s just one of the limitations that makes game less fun for no reason as opposed to limitations that stop some builds from being too op.
Before doing this, the proc itself needs to be buffed. I have used it with some melee characters and i either barely or not even notice going off.
Maybe it’s more noticeable with a melee Vitality build but with the rest the proc might as well not be there.
but ranged builds do have some other advantages. You can kite a boss like Mad Queen, you don’t get killed in on-death explosions in a group of fire Eldritch dogs or Ember soldiers (forgot their names that explode on death). Melee and ranged both have their pro’s and con’s .
that is because its ‘33% of Attack Damage converted to Health’ only applicable to ‘25% Weapon Damage & Vitality Damage’. So once in 5 sec you get 8% of damage returned as HP (minus life steal resistances of a target , of course) compare that with 4-8% Attack Damage converted to Health stat on the ring
that has 0 cooldown.
Unless it’s a dot build ranged character is severly handicapped compared to melee charcter. Kiting Mad Queen is not an advantage and most melee characters are easily capable of taking damage from exploding mobs. There is really no argument here, melee is much stronger in this game.

This is really funny considering some of the best current builds are caster and DoT. DEE Witchblade, Stun Jacks Elementalist, BWC Sorcerer and several others can easily outdo a myriad of melee builds in terms of single target, AOE and tankyness. Melee has been progressively getting worse with each update, that i would consider it actually weaker than caster. Ranged still sucks though.
That’s not how the proc works. It’s the same as Devouring Swarm and SoC, every skill that has a built-in ADCTH will heal you by the percentage of the ADCTH of total damage of the skill, regardless of weapon damage . The problem is that 5 seconds of cooldown make it a very unreliable proc to help you sustain.
I am aware of that. I meant ranged as in using ranged weapons or spells that are not dots. You have listed ranged builds that rely mostly on dots, except Stun Jacks Elementalist that can be incredibly strong because of the huge synergy from skills and gear support.
The ones i mentioned only DEE Witchblade relies on DoTs, but 95% of the time i facetank anything with it. I can name others like Physical Forcewave and Vitality Conjurer which are better than a lot of melee builds. My point is that you are way overselling melee in its current state.
I might be overselling it, although latest trend shows that melee Warborn-Beronath based build are easily facetanking Mad Queen. Let’s just agree that limiting something to melee weapons does not make sense in current meta where every ranged weapon is at disadvantage.
You are probably mentioning the Tz Beronath melee builds. Yes, they are strong but that doesn’t mean the game is leaning more heavily on melee.
I’m definitely not against making ranged weapons work with Lifegiver Signet proc. I just think the proc should be buffed a bit too.
