Little thought of mine about class names

So, if inquisitor+arcanist is a mage hunter, shouldn’t inquisitor+occultist be the actual witch hunter?

I am aware that witch hunter was implemented before inquisitors were a thing and that nobody thought quite that far ahead, but I think swapping the names over (witch hunter for inq+occult and deceiver for nb+occult) would be fitting. Same way as “Paladin’s” items just got renamed to “Cleric’s” since we’re getting an actual paladin class.

Thoughts?

Question is, Creed a Deceiver or Witch Hunter?

And more importantly, when are we getting Yugol as a pet :stuck_out_tongue:

Thoughts? Far too far into the game’s development to go around changing class names now. Far too much work changing everything and doesn’t really add any extra value to the game.

I think it’s fine as it is.

Witch Hunter - Occultist for understanding the Occult ways and Nightblade for stealth in order to find Occults who would be really paranoid and prone to fleeing and secrecy - things that a Nightblade is good for countering. Also a Nightblade could afford to dabble in the Occult because no one would know about it - and if so, not for long.

Mage Hunter - Simply pure magic vs magic where stealth and secrecy have little point in the matter which is why the Inquisitor is involved with the Arcanist mastery. A rogue Arcanist is probably full of themselves due to their innate power so stealth isn’t really an indicator - so a Mage Hunter being able to employ all their own strength out in an open duel kinda makes sense.

Deceiver - Polar opposites when it comes to Inquisitors embracing magic and being able to use it freely in their pursuits without much scrutiny while the Occultists have to practice in hiding and usually have to be on the move due to fear of being hunted.

If it really bothers you, just mod the changes yourself. Pretty sure a simple change like this would remain compatible with vanilla/MP if you build it right into the game itself instead of a mod.

As others have said, I doubt they will change these things as trivial as this at this point.

Psssht Creed is pure Inquisitor. Maxed out, single mastery-ed himself right out of Krieg’s dungeon.

Creed is a Tactician :stuck_out_tongue:

I also think Deceiver is more fitting for Inquisitor/Occultist than Witch Hunter with certain items like Pagar’s Betrayal, Radaggan’s Folly or the description for Tainted Flame (transmuter for Flames of Ignaffar) befitting a Chaos/Acid/Vitality Inquisitor very well.

The Tactician almost summoned Yugol into the world of GD while searching for Ulgrim…

Inquisitors need player scaled Yugol pet.

Gib Yugol pet, devs!!

(I am fine with the names being as they are, on the actual topic of the thread btw)

There was a rather insane thread touching on this topic:

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46847

That thread probably had something to do with Inquisitor and Coven appearing in AoM, along with “Mage Hunter” (which I’m sure Zantai used just to spite me).

Also think of the confusion there’d be for all those builds already out there if the class names got changed now.

Don’t even need to build it into the game, could just use a Translation file.

… but to change it now would cause Chaos damage, in real life.

Or, maybe it could be changed, but make sure to up your Chaos Resist first.

In real life.

Need … coffee …

I always thought Mage Hunter would fit better for the Nightblade/Inquisitor combo, because Nightblades are hired assassins, and Inquisitors focus on policing the arcane and occult practices, so Mage Hunters would be tasked to literally hunt and kill those who are delving into forbidden magic, while Arcanist + Inquisistor should’ve been called Runemancer or Runologist instead.

Then we’d have posts saying why Arcanist+Inq is called Runemancer when NB+Inq is better with runes.
